Re: CSI Data - getting started [SOLVED]

I have the same problem as mjm. I am unable to pull data from CSI into a MultiCharts chart. I spoke with technical support at CSI, and they enabled API access for me. Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem. I spoke with technical support at CSI a second time, but it seems that the problem is n...

How to reset Data Source? [SOLVED]

Hi, I've been working with offline historical data, which I imported via the ASCII import capabilities. Somehow in that process, I've disabled MultiCharts' willingness to pull data from my broker, IB. This worked fine for me in the past. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what I did...

MCFX Pro free with FOREX.com account? [SOLVED]

Hi, I see that MCFX Pro is free for qualified FXCM account holders. I also notice the FOREX.com logo right next to the FXCM logo on the page describing the free MCFX Pro option. But, I don't see FOREX.com mentioned elsewhere. https://www.multicharts.com/forex-trading-platform/purchase/ Can I put my ...

QuoteManager connecting for symbols I no longer use [SOLVED]

Hi, I've noticed that QuoteManger is very aggressive about establishing a real-time data connection for instruments I have worked with in the past, but am not currently using in any chart or scanner. Whenever I launch the MC real time market scanner, I can see in the QuoteManager event log that it f...

Re: Positions at broker into Scanner?

JoshM, thanks for the response. I guess I'll go with my non-ideal plan B that requires an intermediary file output from my broker's software, and read in by Multicharts. Like you, I am anxiously awaiting the Portfolio Trader functionality. I just hope they make it workable for portfolios on the orde...

Re: Positions at broker into Scanner?

I feel like I must be missing something obvious here. When I attempt to use any of the functions suggested by JoshM, I do not seem to be able to pull data from my broker (IB). I am still able to pull all position information from my broker through the Multicharts Order and Position Tracker. But, I g...

Positions at broker into Scanner?

Hi All, I would like to perform some calculations on positions I currently hold at my broker. I have no problem getting the broker position data I need (updated in real time) in a Multicharts Order and Position Tracker window. I don't anticipate any problem doing all the calculations I need to do in...

Re: Trying to Use Market Scanner with Free End of Day Quotes [SOLVED]

Hi Henry, This looks to have worked smoothly when I did it with a single security, following the process outlined in the "Merge historical and real-time data" tutorial video . But I have hundreds of symbols (I am using this within a scanner) that I would like to merge, and my historic ASCII data set...

Re: Trying to Use Market Scanner with Free End of Day Quotes [SOLVED]

Hi Henry, I'm trying to do something similar with the Sanner, and am trying to figure out the best way to approach the effort. I found this thread, and had a follow-up question... Like irishkev, I'd like to use a combination of End of Day and real-time data within the Scanner. I completely understan...

Re: Optimizer error after migrating to a new PC

Hi Henry,

Thanks! That seems to have fixed it.

And, yes, the new PC has a multi-core CPU. More specifically, it has an Intel Xeon model e5620 CPU, 2.4GHz, 12mb Cache, 5.86GT/s QPI, Quad Core.

Thanks,

Optimizer error after migrating to a new PC

Hi, I just moved to a new Windows 7 PC, and see an odd problem within Portfolio Backtester. Everything else has gone fine with the transition: I get the exact same results when I run a BackTest using the same Signals and Instruments on the old and new PCs. But, when I try to run the Optimize functio...

Thanks,

Re: Portfolio Money Management and Autotrading

Hi, I also have need for what Marina called "portfolio autotrading" back in June of 2008. In those evaluations, I've made use of portfolio level functions supplied by MultiCharts, suc...

Re: Anyone used Carbonite to backup MC Studies?

I think I've found a successful work around.

I just use a standard Windows backup (YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdDSNmX_ZFY ) of that restricted folder to my D: drive (my C: drive is an SSD drive, and D: is a hard drive), and let Carbonite back up that folder on my D: drive.

Re: Anyone used Carbonite to backup MC Studies?

Hi Josh, Thanks for the ideas. The idea that MC running was the root cause for the folder restriction was an excellent suggestion. Alas, simply closing MC did not do the trick. I'll dig into setting up "shadow copy", and see if that can be used to create a copy in a folder that doesn't have whatever...

Anyone used Carbonite to backup MC Studies?

Hi, I've used Carbonite for several years. And, while no backup solution is perfect, I've been happy with it, and like the fact that the backups go to an off-site location. I've just noticed that the Signals I've created get saved in a directory (C:\ProgramData\TS Support\MultiCharts\StudyServer\Stu...

Re: MultiCharts 7.4 backtester include Sharpe Ratio?

Hi Henry, Thanks for the definitive response. I beg to differ on the assertion that Sharpe Ratio can't be calculated for a portfolio. The sequence of periodic returns for the whole portfolio is all you need to calculate the Sharpe Ratio. After all, Bill Sharpe invented the Sharpe Ratio as a figure o...

Re: MultiCharts 7.4 backtester include Sharpe Ratio?

Hi Henry, Thanks for your response. I should have been more explicit in my question. I am interested in the Sharpe Ratio for the portfolio I am backtesting, not the individual instruments. There are over 100 instruments in my portfolio -- over any given period of time, some of those end up being win...

MultiCharts 7.4 backtester include Sharpe Ratio?

Hi, When looking at the Portfolio Backtester > Portfolio Performance Report > Strategy Analysis > Performance Ratios, I only see "Portfolio Net Profit as % of Max Portfolio Drawdown" listed. I don't see a way to add other performance ratios, such as Sharpe Ratio. Is there a way to turn this on, or i...

Re: Suggestions on how best to bring additional data into MC

Thanks Dave.

I made good progress on both Approach A and Approach B. Both seem to work fine. As you say, Approach A is easier, but only allows adding a single time series of data. Approach B allows adding 20+ data time series, but is more effort.

Hi Neil, I think I had a related problem with pyramiding in and out of positions. 2haerim seems spot on with his suggestion, including the use of "total" (so your exit order is applied to only your oldest entry, instead of all of your entries), and having separate sell commands for your individual e...
