Is there a good procedure to run a production MC version such as 2.1.999.999 that seldom bombs out during the day while at the same time testing a new version or beta version of MC on the same machine after the trading day is over so the new version will have zero chance of effecting daily trading o...

two chart declutter items.
Here is something for the MC long range improvement list. As a fairly low priority item (and probably not that easy to program) but useful none the less, if the status line could be more selective in what it displays from the studies this would reduce chart clutter in the status line. It would proba...

I programmed a replay simulation using my database program for my own use as a trader and here are a few of its features that may be of value to TSS. I hardly use it because it is too slow as a result of the fact that the initial feature mentioned above is missing. That is the bottom line. If TSS do...

Compare the alternative to this idea. My idea: Look at the chart, decide on restart location, Position cursor, left mouse press, press function key, replay is running. The alternative: Look at the chart, decide on restart location, Position cursor to get the time, try to memorize the time you want t...

It just occured to me that if the secondary idea of submitting GVs from the hint popup window was ever used, it might be useful for the study to know what chart this was submitted from. I just looked through the contents of the hint popup and there is no direct indication as to what chart it is bein...

New subject: Instant replay start & simulator features.
Earlier I had submitted an idea for the replay feature (see URL below). This morning I came up with a name for the idea, which is “The replay, Instant Start Chart”. TSS might want to use that name if they ever put that feature into their replay. However I just came up with a better idea. Details con...

I think I figured out the problem. Short version: When you execute an offset on a variable that exceeds the maxbarsback setting, MC forces a recalculate using a new MaxBarsBack setting so it can allocate more table size for that variable. It does this a few times then eventually gives you a popup at...

MC DLL for IB's TWS 893.8
Hi, I upgraded TWS about 2 weeks ago to "IB TWS 893.8" finally. I like to run way way behind so it was a jump of about 6 versions. I hate upgrades. I just noticed finally that the daily bars are really screwed up when before this I think they were almost flawless. See upgrades are evil. :) Is there ...

I only try stuff until I kinda get a solution, then I quit. I do that a lot too. Reading it made me laugh but seriously I don't think it should have because I actually think it is suppose to be that way. I didn't know things about MaxBarsBack until I had this problem. I would rather trade too. John.

Hi Bob, Actually most of the work was just typing it up but typing is fast so not that bad. All code is just simple cut and paste. I am curious about your statement below. I use that whenever I don't want to start a plot on price that begins at 0 when CurrentBar = 1. When would a study start at 0 on...

Okay, now I fixed the post. I thought I would try an experiment to determine a few things. 1/ I wanted to see if I could use an offset in square brackets to reference back to the very first bar on the chart during the "if CurrentBar = 1 then" code when maxbarsback was set to a value of greater than ...

Hi Marina, Yes, still on MC 2.1.999.999. I haven't upgraded since I don't know if the aborts that occured in 3.1 beta have been fixed. That is the main reason for one of my prior suggestions that a bug numbering system be implemented. I guess it is too late now for that bug. Still holding to the str...

It may be that the original problem I was having was that for some reason my code was searching back farther than the automatic maxbarsback setting and also searching back farther than the initial 500 and 1000 settings I chose. I did have to make a change to my code to get it to work on the 10 secon...

It just occured to me that maybe MaxBarsBack would be better named DelayStudyStart. In other words, delay my study from starting to execute until there is enough data available to provide the amount of data it requires. Thus the currentBar=1 will be a later bar on the chart if the MaxBarsBack/DelayS...

Hi Bob, I have done a lot of coding in normal languages (and even assembler when I started - actually machine language a tiny bit just to have a tiny thrill) but EL is a special kind of quirky animal that can really through the best of programmers because it just isn't normal. The more normal progra...

Actually it turns out I had to back off the MaxBarsBack setting down to 8000 from 10000 so the study has some room to start before the current bars. The good news is it still seemed to fix the problem of having the (currentbar = 1) code being reexecuted more than the normal 1 time we would expect. I...

It seems I have solved the problem above on the 10 second bars only be setting the MaxBarsBack to a value of 10,000 to match the number of bars of the symbol itself. What is interesting is the fact that I could only set MaxBarsBack to a value of no more than about 1200 on the 1 minute bars but on th...

New subject: auto maxbarsback adjustment message needed.
Things got off topic a bit near the end. However the very last post has a suggestion for what was actually occuring and a specific message to use to warn the user if MC thinks that the MaxBarsBack setting should be increased above its current setting. Original post below: I have been painfully remin...

Can not overwrite,
I don't know if this has been fixed or not but my EL editor can not overwrite a study that is already out there when we are trying to use the "save as" function (it occurs even if MC is not running and not using the study). You have to do the extra step of deleting it then doing the "same as". Fixin...

The trader would need to be able to temporarily hide these tools once they have served their pattern marking reminder function so that the chart can be kept clean. This would allow the trader to, at the end of the day, expose them one by one from a list for later saving to bmp files or printing. To ...

Somehow after the fact new lines need to be added. I guess the trader could just highlight the tool and click another price bar and a new line would be added. Maybe the trader could indicate that the lines are to be completed X number of units above/below price rather than actually touch the bars a...

A useful pattern marking tool.
I think a lot of traders would agree that this would be a very useful pattern-marking tool. Maybe another software package has something like this. I do not know. I have never seen anything like this before on the 5 or 6 charting packages I have used and it is unfortunate. Background: As most trader...

Totally agree TJ. 100%. I have come up with an idea where each of my checklist criteria has a memo field to capture ideas on how I can have MC get the answer to the checklist criteria via GV transfers. Maybe in this way I can eventually bring any system to full automation (programming stubs). I wish...
