Changing Database location

Postby Traderji » 04 Mar 2013

In the 8.5 release notes -

Change save locations for databases, studies, logs and file cache

Users can now define preferred paths and locations for MultiCharts’ databases, studies, logs and file cache. This may be especially useful if you have an SSD drive or not enough permissions in certain shared environments.

I can't see any option to change the path in Multicharts? Can someone point me to the setting?

Hello Traderji,

You need to go to Start->Run->RegEdit.exe
Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE=HKLM

On 64 bit Windows the path to MultiCharts 64 bit keys:
Databases:
Portfolio.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64\Databases\Portfolio
Key name: Path
TSCache.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64\Databases\Storage
Key name: CachePath
TSStorage.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64\Databases\Storage
Key name: Path
Dictionary.csv Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64\Databases\Portfolio
Key name: DictionaryPath

Studies, logs and file cache:
Studies Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64
Key name: StudiesPath
TradingCenter logs Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64
Key name: TradingCenterLogsPath
tsServer cache path Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TS Support\MultiCharts64
Key name: TSServerCachePath

HKCU=HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Logs path HKCU\Software\TS Support\BugSlayer
BugSlayer\Log Directory

On 64 bit Windows the path to MultiCharts 32 bit keys:
Databases:
Portfolio.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases\Portfolio
Key name: Path
TSCache.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases\Storage
Key name: CachePath
TSStorage.gdb Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases\Storage
Key name: Path
Dictionary.csv Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases\Portfolio
Key name: DictionaryPath

Studies, logs and file cache:
Studies Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts
Key name: StudiesPath
TradingCenter logs Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts
Key name: TradingCenterLogsPath
tsServer cache path Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TS Support\MultiCharts
Key name: TSServerCachePath

HKCU=HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Logs path HKCU\Software\TS Support\BugSlayer
BugSlayer\Log Directory

If the key name is missing - you need to manually create it.

Thanks for your reply. Isn't that exact same process that we have used to change DB paths in all the previous versions of Multicharts?

Why put it in the release notes as a new feature? I thought they might have put in something like a prompt during the install process or in the Options/Preferences window to justify it as a "new feature"?

I think the Developers might be slacking off and padding the release notes! Someone should keep an eye on those dodgy buggers :-))

Why put it in the release notes as a new feature?
Some keys were broken and not working, some were missing before.
Isn't that exact same process that we have used to change DB paths in all the previous versions of Multicharts?
But some remained the same, that is true.

Change registry keys is not too "user friendly" for all and is extremely dangerous, i think this is not new feature, is "reported" feature

We are going to add ability to redefine the Preferred Paths for user data from GUI in one of the next versions of MultiCharts.
