Two signals on one chart--unexpected results

Postby PD Quig » 02 Jul 2013

I'm using both a long- and short strategy on the same chart.

This morning, the short strategy was short three contracts when the criteria were met for a long entry of two contracts. The expected result was that 1) the three contract short position would be covered and 2) a two contract long position would be opened.

What actually happened was 1) the short position was covered and the market position went to flat--no long position was initiated (even though the signal showed "LE 3" on the chart).

Attached are pics of 1) the short strategy running by itself 2) the long strategy running by itself and 3) both long and short running at the same time. I've also included a picture of some variable values sent to output that shows the market position (MP) going to zero and not 1.00.

Maybe I need to combine the two strategies, but I'd like to understand what factors might be causing this behavior before doing that.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks, Henry, but I decided to combine the two signals rather than try to understand the interplay between the two signals running independently. It now works as expected.
