How to chart end of day Metastock data

Postby Kaos » 11 Jul 2007

Hi All,

Another data question.

I have end of day metastock data in c:\datatools

I followed the video exactly (and a couple of times) and I can't chart my metastock data.

I go to Tools - Datasources -> Metastock -> Settings
I add in the directories
c:\datatools\continuous contracts\back adjusted\
c:\datatools\continuous contracts\spliced\

I set timezone to Exchange
I tried "Build daily bars from" both resolution file and 1 daily bars options

I go to chart the data and I get a blank space where the bars should be and all it says up the top is of the status bar is "No Data"

I can chart the metastock data through TS2000i so I know it is a multicharts setting...

Any ideas would be welcomed :-)
Thanks again
Paul

I think I just solved the problem....

I can only view EOD metastock data if
File | Preferences | Data Server Mode |
and Online is ticked
and I want to download missing data is ticked.

The key to seeing EOD data was to tick "I want to download missing data"

That's fine except.....
On a workspace I have a daily chart to tell me which way to bet for the day
and I have an intraday chart for trading.

If I have all my intraday data then I don't need to "download missing data"
because I don't want to re-download the data I already have in the database.

But if I untick "download missing data" then I can't see my daily end of day data....

That's gold :-)

Anyway - just a heads up for other people and possibly something to look at in a later release.

Cheers
Paul

PS - If you have seen the Footy Show in Australia and you'll get the comment :-)

Thank you for paying attention to these nuances.

Regarding your question #1:
You need to have "I want to download missing data" checkbox checked because:
1.1 We do not store MetaStock data in QuoteManager database.
1.2 So MultiCharts considers the MetaStock' data as some kind of "missing QuoteManager database data".
1.3 To let MultiCharts know that you need such external data i.e. you need to check "I want to download missing data" checkbox.

Regarding your question #2:
2.1 Please, note that MultiCharts does not download all the data each time. Although a lot of people think so.
2.2 In case "I want to download missing data" checkbox is checked QuoteManager acts as follows:
- first, it takes all the relevant data available in the database;
- second, it connects to the datafeed and checks if any data are missing;
- third, if any data are missing then QM downloads such data
- finally, it plots the charts.
NOTE. In case "I want to download missing data" checkbox is checked only MISSING data will be downloaded. Not ALL the data. In case you do not have any missing data no data will be downloaded.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the update.... It cleared a couple of things up. I didn't realise the QM checked the data and only plugged the gaps.

Regards,
Paul
