Linux version of Multicharts would enable the use of crays !

Postby andywill » 23 May 2014

Dear Multicharts engineers and support team,

Multicharts is written in C++, but actually only executable with Windows as operating system. But even with Windows Server 2012 Datacenter you are limited to a low number of sockets. If you want to use 1000 sockets you need Linux. A Linux version of Multicharts would enable the world of crays and supercomputers.
For a real professional usability there is a need of Linux, because Windows is too limited here. Windows Server supports only a limited number of multiple cpus, and it depends on the given hardware for windows. So at this moment you can spend only a very few hundred thousand dollar on hardware for windows. But with a Linux version you could use supercomputers far above what is given for windows. So with Multicharts you would not have a reason anymore to hide against the big players, because you are able to use the same hardware like them. At this moment Multicharts with Windows is nice, but with Linux it would be awesome, because it would run on a computer with some 1000 cpus e.g., at this moment you need many computers to compensate that limitation. And the prices will go down, so in a few years a lot of more people could afford a kind of supercomputer, but actually cannot use it with Multicharts. It is just a matter of time, that everything gets cheap enough to buy the professional hardware. Please do not wait too long.

There is no such strict limitation in a Linux world. Please build a Linux executable version of Multicharts. Thank you very much.
