Switching Database location:Need to modify the Preferences?

Postby arjfca » 02 Nov 2014

Hello

I the process to modify the Databases locations, do we need to modify the Preferences link?

The new location is on drive F:
The cache, studies and order position are still on C drive after doing the procedure to move the database to a new location.

Hi Martin,

moving databases should be quite simple. Here is how I did it:
1) copy databases to 'new' location
2) start MultiCharts as administrator and change the location in the preferences, exactly the screen you showed in your post
3) quit Multicharts
4) remove databases from the 'original' location

One thing I learned was that MultiCharts gets quite unhappy if it can't find the databases. Another thing I learned is that MultiCharts will not accept the databases to reside on a network drive, not even if it is mapped to a drive.

Hope this helps.

Best regards, Felix

instead of "removing" an old database,
I would rename the directory.

eg. from MultiCharts to MultiCharts_old.

I don't want to delete anything that I might regret later; harddisk is cheap.
