ASCII mapping lost upon platform restart

Postby waveslider » 04 Nov 2014

Hello -
My issue is that when I restart the platform, the mapping for a symbol is incorrect. Some of the fields are correct but some are not.
The data source for this symbol is Universal DDE. Collect R/T data without plotting is enabled.
Exchange listed is UNDEF, category is Indexes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello waveslider,

I am not sure I am following.
If you are doing ASCII mapping of a file then the data source for the (automatically) created instrument is "ASCII mapping".
"Universal DDE" instruments get data using DDE realtime feed.
These two data feeds are not related.
Please describe the particular difficulty you have.

Hi Henry -

I want this symbol to retrieve new data each day, for that reason I selected DDE. After that selection I go and assign columns to open, high, low, close, etc.

I will try it as ASCII instead to see if this changes anything.
Essentially the mapping seems to change slightly when I restart the platform.

I have not yet gone and restarted the platform, but now have a symbol using ASCII as a data source.

Collecting real time data is "not supported" - does this mean I will have to refresh the chart to get new data - or manually add it?

In MultiCharts please go to File tab->Preferences->Data server mode;
Make sure you are in online mode, "Download missing historical data" is enabled.

I have checked this, and it is set as you suggest. After re-starting MC the chart mapping is correct, however the most recent data is not showing up (data since last re-start).

What do you mean by "chart mapping is correct"? Is the ASCII Mapping configured correctly?
Is the file updated by adding one line at a time to the end of the file? Are the sessions configured correctly? Can you see the new data if you reload the chart (Ctrl+R) ?

Hi Henry -
I have not been able to get the symbol to update since I mapped the ASCII file. The actual data file has updated outside of MC, but when I go to quotemanager and edit data, the data file remains as is since I mapped it.
The question is how to get the symbol in MC to connect with the file and get new data.
Within the file, new data is added one line at a time to the end of the file.
Control R does not add the missing data.
thanks

waveslider, ASCII mapping does not import data into the database (Edit data window will be empty). It creates a link from the software to the file with data.
So each time you plot an ASCII mapping symbol-the data is taken from the file directly.

If you have data in the Edit data window of the instrument then it was imported and now the database data has priority over the data from the file. You need to delete the existing instrument and re-map the file. You do not need to create ASCII mapping instrument manually-it is created automatically upon mapping.
