rainmeter and f.lux apps for your Windows desktop

Postby arnie » 14 Jan 2016

This is not MC related.
Just wanted to share two small apps that are pretty cool to have.

Rainmeter allow us to create skins for our Windows desktop. It's super light weight on the system.
I was able to change a clock and a system skin script and this was the result:

I have a clock for each major city and I also have a skin showing me the RAM and CPU usage.
There's a lot of other information that one can put on these skins.
One can even create a watchlist for stocks and futures and connect it via API. There're examples of watchlists connected to Yahoo Finance and Bloomberg.
The programming skills for that is way above my knowledge but it's pretty cool to open the PC and immediately have a watchlist right there on the desktop showing quotes without any type of action.
Basicaly, instead of having some picture on your desktop as a wallpaper, one can populate the desktop with these skins, retrieving information such as the weather, world clock, system, news, stock quotes...

The other app that it's pretty cool to have is f.lux.
This little app knows where you are in the world and tracks the sun hours.
Basically, at night time, it automatically changes the colors of your screen, making it warmer, lowering the blue light spectrum.
