How to plot BRK B (Berkshire Hathaway Class B) ?

Postby benho » 09 Sep 2016

Hi,

I don't know what's wrong with my settings in plotting/downloading historical data for stocks with symbol format like "BRK B", "BF B" .... in which there is a space in the symbol name.

- My data provider is IB
- I add the above symbols in QM: Add Symbol > From Data Source > Interactive Brokers
- I can plot the above symbols in IB platform
- Multicharts can't plot nor download historical data from IB. It always shows "no data".
- Scanner window can't display the trend, but display "no data".
- However, scanner window can show the real time price
- Quote Manager showed "No security definition has been found" for the above symbols
- I tried to add the CUSIP code (obtained from IB) in QM setting, no help.

Attached please find the chart setting and QM symbol setting.

Any hints ?

Thanks & Regards,

May the space between BRK and B is the problem, as I have never seen a symbol with space working in Multicharts. May you try BRK-B or so ... The easiest way would be to contact the 'Live-Support' during business hours.

Have a nice weekend.

Kind Regards.

Hi Ben,

Before I made my post, I have tried BRK-B, BRK.B, BRKB .... many many different combinations and all failed.

But it is strange that the Scanner window can display the real time stock price information but just can't download the historical data with format "BRK B" in which there is a space. It always shows "no data".

I get BRK.B from Barchart.com but I also tried without success getting historical data from IB. I have no problems mapping barchart.com BRK.B-> IB BRK B. It is a name I trade regularly.

Hello Ben,

Our engineers have replicated this behavior on our end. The case has been forwarded to the development team. I will let you know once there are any updates.

Go to your QuoteManger,

Select the symbol,

select Edit Symbol,

Under the Stocks tab,

Change the Symbol Root from

BRK

to

BRK B

First you need to close all charts with this instrument. Then follow TJ's instructions:
Go to your QuoteManger,
Select the symbol,
select Edit Symbol,
Under the Stocks tab,
Change the Symbol Root from
BRK
to
BRK B
Once you do that - disconnect your broker profile, delete the symbol mapping, connect broker profile and add the correct symbol mapping (if you are using data provider different from IB). If your data provider is IB then the proper mapping should be added automatically:
https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... ol_Mapping

In order to get the data on the chart you will need to reload it.

It works !

Actually I did something similar without success. The key points are:
1. Close ALL charts first before changing symbol root.
2. Reload data, otherwise, some of the data won't be downloaded.

Thanks
