All studies on a chart will randomly turn OFF from time to time

Postby wilkinsw » 25 Jan 2017

Hi,

For the last 2 years or so there's been an issue I occasionally run into that I've never got to the bottom of and haven't been able to reproduce.

I run about 80 live charts. About once every 2 weeks, I will discover that a chart has turned all it's studies "off".

Considering some of the studies are risk related, it's rather concerning.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there a shortcut key combination I might be entering by mistake that turns off all studies on the selected chart?

What MC code in the background would turn off all indicators, should a certain event=true (but not signals)? Can someone list them please? I'm thinking along the lines of study settings etc.......

This still happens from time to time. I have about a hundred charts and average one chart/week turning off all indicators randomly. Sometimes it is indicators that relate to risk, which is pretty scary. It never happens to signals though.

MC what info do you need to help fix this?

Probably your wsp is corrupted.

Have you tried creating a new wsp?
Would a new wsp behave the same? ie randomly turn off some indicators?

If a workspace is suspected to be corrupt; what's the quickest way to create a new one that is unlikely to also be corrupted?

I'm thinking copy and paste all charts from old workspace to a new one. Or will the new one inherit the same issue that caused the corruption?

Using templates can help You to build workspace quickly...

Thanks Smoky will take a look.

In the meantime, does anyone know if copy and pasting charts into a new workspace will carry over the bug or not?

Thanks.

I have 50+ windows in a dozen or so workspaces and never experienced missing studies. Be sure to use the most current version of MC.
Have a fast CPU and 32gb or more ram. Not enough ram or a slow processor can cause strange problems.
I always backup my workspaces in a separate folder, makes replacing a corrupted one a snap.

Hardware is very unlikely to be the limitation for me. I rarely use more than 50% of any hardware resource on my production servers.

Am running MC11 r9 as of last week (updated from MC11 r5): haven't had an issue yet but have never not had the issue with latest versions having used MC as a heavy user since 2013.

I too could restore workspaces from old backups: I've always been plagued by this issue so I wouldn't be able to select a viable backup with confidence.

I don't even know if a corrupt workspace is the issue or not...... but i suffer other issues too (such as global variables getting stuck and needing refreshing) and would like to attempt building fresh workspaces to rule out corruption. Therefore I'd like an answer to my question:

- If wanting to create a fresh, cloned workspace to rule out file corruption for an existing workspace: how does one do so without inheriting legacy file corruption? Can I simple copy and paste charts into a new workspace?

I really appreciate users taking the time to give me their tips. Unless someone has had this exact issue and solved it; would appreciate someone answering the above question, just so I can rule it out for now.

Thanks!!

if your charts look ok on the screen, your wsp is not corrupted.

You can save the wsp in a different name as a back up. (eg append the date to the wsp name)

Me and two other associates are still getting this on the latest MC12.

We work independently of each other.

On live charts all indicators (not signals) will suddenly toggle off. I'd guess on 50 live charts it will happen once a month on one chart on average.

Hello, wilkinsw,

Please use the latest version of MultiCharts, and if the issue is reproduced, please send us the report using Help -> Feedback.
In the description field please specify the exact time when you noticed the issue.
Please select the options:
Attach a Screenshot;
Attach Log files…;
Snapshot of the current MC setup;
Open workspaces…;
Active indicators… (if possible);
Upload collected data to Help Desk;
and click Send.

Also please make full sized screenshots of the chart where you have the issue;
and of Format Study window, where we could see which indicators are off.
If you see any error messages, please make screenshots too, and send us by email support@multicharts.com.

After you send the report please check the following:
- Is it possible to turn on the disabled studies by clicking Status button in the Format Study window in the same chart?
- Please make a copy of the chart via File -> Copy Window (Ctrl + Shift + C) and File -> Paste Window (Ctrl + Shift + V).
Is it possible to turn on the disabled studies by clicking Status button in the Format Study window in the copy of the chart?

If not possible, please send us logs the same way again. Specify the time when you tried to turn the study on. Make screenshots of the error messages you get, if any.

Additional questions:
1) Do you use Global Variables in the studies with which you have the issue?
Do you use the same files for output or other common resources in those studies?

2) Studies turn off as a result of compilation of the studies themselves, or compilation of the dependent functions. Do you compile the studies before the issue appears?
