Henry,

This is not Beta any more right? 11.0 official release?

If I download and install the newest version - it will overwrite the oldest without erasing my Signals and Indicators right?

yoyotrader,

while this is usually the case, you still might want to do a backup of your studies before installing a new version of Multicharts. Simply export all studies, this doesn't take more than a minute and it's better to be save than sorry when it comes to your studies.

Hello yoyotrader,

That is correct, it is 11.0 official release. When you update MultiCharts it always keeps all your personal data preserved, but as ABC mentioned above - doing a backup of your user data before update is a good practice. In this new version you can backup your data with ease and you can also configure the Scheduler to have it done automatically for you. https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... pplication

Hello Mydesign,

Thanks for reporting. Our engineers are analyzing this case.
Any progress on this bug ? FYI it also affects chart window redimensionning: very very slow display refreshing...

BTW, I really like the new 3D optimization chart. Much better better than previous one ;-) You forget to mention it on the "What's new" page, though it's worth mentionning.

Hello Mydesign,

At the moment this case is targeted to MultiCharts 12, since the issue is not a trivial one.

Thanks Henry,

One other question - was cause of the above cursor glitch ever found? Specifically, will it happen whenever there is ANY signal in the chart?
I noticed it does not happen on the stock demo workspace charts and signals

yoyotrader, it does not happen to all users, but in case you experience this behavior - try making the chart smaller to improve the cursor speed. The fix is targeted to MultiCharts 12 and at the moment we cannot provide more details on the matter.

This build is critical for OANDA users - it has modified algorithm of requesting historical daily bars. OANDA did some changes on their end effective today on Demo, in a week on Live. Make sure you update to this new version in order to be able to receive historical daily data.

Re: MULTICHARTS 11.0 RELEASE--is slow to load

Postby PD Quig » 21 Sep 2017

I upgraded to 11.0.14941.400 this afternoon.

The first time I started MultiCharts it took probably 2-3 minutes to load all my workspaces. So, I shut it down and did four more starts. Average load time: 1 min 40 secs.

I uninstalled and reinstalled 10.0.14417 and ran four start-up tests: Average load time: 15 secs

I plan to remain on 10.0 for the foreseeable future.

BTW: when I rolled back to 10.0, all my chart bar types were messed up. Minute and range charts were reset to OHLC from candlestick, and renko charts got changed to renko from candlestick. That was not expected.

Re: MULTICHARTS 11.0 RELEASE - not all Volume processed

Postby asyx » 23 Sep 2017

Hi.

Some days ago I installed the latest version.
With the new version suddenly Cumulative Delta e.g. on a tick chart and on the 5 min chart were different.
Also when you look at CL on the 5 min chart and the volume which occured at each candle, you see this week a lot of candles where the volume is 10 k and more.
In real time most candles were with volume of just 5 k and lower. Only after a reload MC showed the correct volume per candle.
This happend every day the past week.

In older version I never had this kind of problems. Could you please check?

Regards

Hi Henry

I will also be contacting you for the MC 10 download link. I have had multiple issues with MC 11, as listed below.

1) It does not load IQFeed data properly. Every time I start MC 11, I get an error message "Data feed couldn't be loaded". This message occurs for every workspace within the desktop I am loading.

2) It loads slowly compared to MC 10.

3) It does not shut down properly. I have to go in to task manager and shut down 3 processes every time. While previous versions occasionally have this problem, MC 11 seems to happen every time.

4) When I reload a chart, all charts in every workspace go blank. Charts will not repopulate with data. I have to shut down MC 11, go in to task manager and shut down 3 processes, then restart MC 11.

Since I don't see any new features (other than maybe the backup features) that are critical to me, going back to MC 10 is a no brainer.

Hi Henry,

I've just upgraded to the new MC 11 RC3. Everytime I try to close a workspace MC crashes (I tried to send the application error message via MC) ...

Is there a way to roll back to RC2?

Anybody else having the same issue?

Thanks!

I don't have that problem ( I tried it a few times) but if you want to go back to a previous version, run the "current version" and it will give you the option of repairing or removing it. Just don't have it remove your data. (also an option).

Update: it seems to work OK if I don't call it on every bar in minute or tick data for debugging.

As a great plus, the syntax highlighting seems to work great on large scripts ( greater than 500 lines). It's a very nice improvement.

Chartsurfer, CrazyNasdaq,

We have resolved this issue. The installer files on the website have been updated and now include this fix from the box.
You can remove your current installation, download the new installer from the website and run it.

Alternatively the fastest solution is to install the attached hotfix.
Please download the file with the fix corresponding to your version of MultiCharts, unzip it and follow the installation guide:

Hello,

Just to let you know, here with MC 11 I have some serious cursor display lag as soon as there are signals on a chart. See attached video.

Regards,
Mydesign
When is MC12 out?

The slowdowns on charts with signals applied is making MC11 unusable for me. Am wondering why isn't everyone suffering this issue?

This issue has been resolved in MultiCharts 11 Release 2. So the current version Release 3 has it addressed already.

Re: MULTICHARTS 11.0 RELEASE

Postby TraderWalrus » 19 Nov 2017

Just installed MC 11 release 3 (I was previously running MC 10), mostly to get a more advanced Walk Forward report.

My impression is that while the MC 11 WFO report is certainly nicer than the table we had before, in my opinion it's still does not provide enough information to evaluate the process, and doing an export to excel and performing analysis there is required in the same way it was required in previous versions (it is easier to export the data though. In previous versions we needed to use "select all" and then "copy" and paste into excel).

May I suggest future versions include a similar report to the Strategy Performance Report or a simplified version of it, made up of the Out-Of-Sample data. That would really be a killer feature. The current Summary only includes Min, Max and Average values per period. It will save a lot of time in exporting and analyzing the results elsewhere.

I was positively impressed from the new interface for 3D Graphs. It's now much easier to move between Net Profit to Return On Account functions etc. If this selection (used for the y-axis) could be directly on a side/top panel instead of in the 3D view settings, it would be even better. I normally check at least 2-3 functions when evaluating optimization results.

Customs resolution manager - are there any sample scripts available?

A general question: if I want to move the software to a different folder, while keeping my data, what is the best way to do it?

Hello TraderWalrus,

Could you please specify what additional information would you like to have exactly and what opportunities for analysis Excel offers that are missing in out WFO report?

Making WFO report similar to Strategy Performance Report is not possible at the moment because the data from backtests is not stored in order to increase the optimization speed. We’re planning to introduce a bigger number of WFO report features, but at the moment it’s hard to provide any ETA.
This is something that can be expected in the upcoming versions.
Customs resolution manager - are there any sample scripts available?.
Yes, for reference you can view the code of the pre-built plugins. It can be viewed in the Custom Resolutions Editor: https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... ion_Plugin
A general question: if I want to move the software to a different folder, while keeping my data, what is the best way to do it?.
If you want to move the application itself - uninstall MultiCharts without checking the “Remove MultiCharts user data from computer” option during uninstallation and then reinstall MultiCharts to another target folder. If you want to move your user data to a different folder - follow these instructions: How to Move MultiCharts Database, Studies and Logs from C Drive.

Could you please specify what additional information would you like to have exactly and what opportunities for analysis Excel offers that are missing in out WFO report?
The point of this process for me is to evaluate the OOS performance. For each report, I do the following basic analysis in excel:

1. I add a column right to Net Profit (OOS)
2. In this column I calculate a cumulative sum of the net profit for each row.
3. I add another column, where I calculate the maximum cumulative profit achieved at every point (high watermark).
4. I then add a graph with those two columns.
5. In a third column, I calculate the differences between the high watermark and the cumulative profit.
6. The maximum of this last column is the maximum drawdown.

Attached is an example of this analysis.

Hello TraderWalrus,

Thank you for the detailed description.
We’ll implement this in MultiCharts 12. It will be possible to choose inputs on a 3D graph without entering the dialogue. As for the analysis itself we’ll introduce those columns and will make it possible to display OOS Equity Curve, watermark and 2D graph.

Another point about the WFO - as mentioned in the link below, "If there is an open trade by the end of OOS period, it is not counted in report."
This may distort the results, especially when the OOS length is small. For systems where the "avg # bars in winning trades" is lower than the "avg # bars in losing trades" (for example near target, far stop kind of systems), more losing trades than winning trades will be excluded (a quick trade will have a larger chance to be included). This may lead to results that look very good in the WFO but in fact are unrealistic.

I suggest to include the open profit/loss of any open trade, in the same way open trades appear in other reports.

Hi Multicharts team,

it appears there is a limitation for the length of an order name that MC displays and uses internally. However it seems that these limitations are different for what is shown on the chart versus what is shown on in performance report.

1. Could this limitation be removed?
2. Either way, could the Performance Report display the same name as the chart (i.e. not use a different limitation)?

Code: Select all

once
begin
Buy ( "I am just a test how long an entry name can be" ) next bar market ;
end ;
Order name as displayed on the chart and in Perfomance Report:

Hello ABC,

Order name length in MultiCharts = 32. We will have the performance report support the same length in MultiCharts 12 Beta 1.

Hello Henry,

great, thank you for the update. Not that it really matters, the chart appears to only show a length of 31 strings for me in MultiCharts64 Version 11.0 Release (Build 15566).

Hello Multicharts,

it appears there is a bug with the reserved word PositionProfit, at least in MultiCharts64 Version 11.0 Release (Build 15566).
The help file states:
PositionProfit (0) will return a value of 5 if the value of the open position has increased by ¤5 since it was entered
However PositionProfit (0) will only return 0 while in a trade, as can be reproduced with the below code.

Code: Select all

once
begin
Buy ( "Long" ) next bar market ;
end ;

if MarketPosition <> 0 then
Print( "CurrentBar = ", CurrentBar, "; OpenPositionProfit = ", OpenPositionProfit, "; PositionProfit( 0 ) = ", PositionProfit( 0 ) ) ;
The output log shows:
CurrentBar = 2.00; OpenPositionProfit = -95.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 3.00; OpenPositionProfit = -130.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 4.00; OpenPositionProfit = -100.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 5.00; OpenPositionProfit = -35.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 6.00; OpenPositionProfit = -25.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 7.00; OpenPositionProfit = -30.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 8.00; OpenPositionProfit = -75.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 9.00; OpenPositionProfit = -90.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 10.00; OpenPositionProfit = -75.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 11.00; OpenPositionProfit = -50.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
CurrentBar = 12.00; OpenPositionProfit = -10.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = 0.00
Running the same code in TS, it shows that OpenPositionProfit matches PositionProfit( 0 ), just as one would expect in MC according to the help file, too.
CurrentBar = 2.00; OpenPositionProfit = -5.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -5.00
CurrentBar = 3.00; OpenPositionProfit = -65.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -65.00
CurrentBar = 4.00; OpenPositionProfit = -25.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -25.00
CurrentBar = 5.00; OpenPositionProfit = -35.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -35.00
CurrentBar = 6.00; OpenPositionProfit = -40.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -40.00
CurrentBar = 7.00; OpenPositionProfit = -65.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -65.00
CurrentBar = 8.00; OpenPositionProfit = -60.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -60.00
CurrentBar = 9.00; OpenPositionProfit = -75.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -75.00
CurrentBar = 10.00; OpenPositionProfit = -30.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -30.00
CurrentBar = 11.00; OpenPositionProfit = -55.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -55.00
CurrentBar = 12.00; OpenPositionProfit = -40.00; PositionProfit( 0 ) = -40.00

Hello Multicharts, it appears there is a bug with the reserved word PositionProfit, at least in MultiCharts64 Version 11.0 Release (Build 15566).
ABC,

Your help file seems to be outdated. PositionProfit returns total realized profit or loss for the specified closed position. You need to have at least a partially filled order in the current position for it to return any value. https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... tionProfit

Hello CrazyNasdaq,

Poloniex has changed SSL protocols tonight – most likely that is the reason why you are unable to get the instruments list.
We are currently building new version of MultiCharts that has the updated protocol support.

Thanks for your feedback. This is not something that is currently possible within current platform architecture. Currently report operates with Net Profit only, which is closed trades. We are going to address these improvement requests when the new auto trading/backtesting engine is introduced: http://www.multicharts.com/pm/viewissue ... no=MC-1497 At the moment there is no specific version/date for it. Please follow the corresponding PM entry.

Hi,
it's only about me, or there is a very slow download for the release 7 on Multicharts site servers today ?
I can surf the web very fast and download everything fast as usual (I've a optical fiber cable ), but I can't download the latest release of MC.
Is there any problem on the server side ?

I've encountered a problem during the use of new release 7 with crypto currecies
The price scale due the fraction of the crypto is forcely set to 1/100000000 (8 decimals ore more)

Image

this cause to be impossible to use Point bars due the limitation of point bars in a range which goes from 1 to 10000 ( 4 decimals).

Image

There are even problems using Classic Renko and Flex renko due the setting of the price scale and the limitations with tick precision and so on.

Image

This is a very great improvment, but "NOW" there are many new problems in using these new features linked to the Crypto Price scales.
My congratulations to all the team, but to use all the tools of Multicharts we have to improve some new "bugs" using crypto currecies and their price scales very deep

Hello Henry,

thank you for letting me know. The help file using MultiCharts64 Version 11.0 Release (Build 15566) shows these examples for PositionProfit on my end:
Example
PositionProfit (0) will return a value of 5 if the value of the open position has increased by ¤5 since it was entered

PositionProfit (1) will return a value of -5 if the most recently closed position has generated a loss of ¤5
Can I specifically update the help file in case this is still showing the old information after upgrading to the lastest MC version?

Point bars now support Resolution of up to 2 000 000 000.
More info: viewtopic.php?t=50913&p=128131#p128129
Please increment more than 2 billion the resolution of point and renko bars
Bitcoin quotes more than 10 thousand with 8 decimals after. It means 5 integers before 8 decimals, equals to 13 numbers at least, non "only" 9 numbers
Please review the limit and Up increment it to 20 numbers ( 999 000 000 000 000 000 000 ) to avoid future problems.
9 digits is too short as ceiling limit
Renko and point bars with this limitation are too fast as price resolution due the high value of crypto currencies

Please review the limit and Up increment it to 20 numbers ( 999 000 000 000 000 000 000 ) to avoid future problems.
9 digits is too short as ceiling limit
Renko and point bars with this limitation are too fast as price resolution due the high value of crypto currencies
This is a chart of Bitcoin with max resolution now avaliable with Renko and Points chart (2 000 000 000 digits)
As you can see, it's very very fast as chart resolution and it's the highest resolution we can have with these kind of charts in cryptos

CrazyNasdaq, there is no technical possibility to increase it within the current architecture. You can change the price scale for the instrument without losing the data precision for the majority of the crypto instruments.

BIG BIG issue !

Not only for this window, but quotemanager stop to run and autotrading stop too !

the BIG issue is that this windows wait an user to clic on Skip button ! to make Quotemanager running again.

One more time, Developer team forget auto-trader, because in auto-trading there is no one in front of the computer, if yours cutomers uses autotrading it does not have to remain to watch a screen during all the day.

Please it urgent to make an auto-skip button (2-3 seconds) to make quotemanager running again quickly. You can leave your error windows on screen for later use of course. (You can use this auto-skip button on all issues when skip keypress can make MC running again)

Auto-trading is the future and now many trading softwares are optimized for this use, it's time to MC team to realy think auto-trading, not only for marketing, but for performances and real use. My dream only a black box with no charts only EL optimized for performance, speed and focus on broker API. no need to take cpu usage for drawing, all power on EL execution...

3 times in the same day ! and i don't use portfolio...

Probably your MC is corrupted.
I would delete and re-install.

Henry,

it appears MaxBarsForward and Getappinfo( aiSpaceToRight ) are static and don't reflect changes to the "Chart Shift" settings of a chart i.e. changing the number of bars for the chart will not change what MaxBarsForward and Getappinfo( aiSpaceToRight ) return for a study already applied to a chart. The same applies to the corresponding properties in Multicharts.NET.
Is this intended behavior that the values don't change/reflect changes once the study is applied to a chart?

Regards,

ABC

ABC, this behavior is by design. These reserved words get their values upon the study initialization. To update them - you need to re-initialize the study by changing its Status manually, or by using the Recalculate reserved word.

When trying to update from the MC button that we find in Help - Check for updates - Download, I get below error. Any way of overcoming that ?
At the end I went to go to the download page, entered emails and got it manually.

Hello Automeq,

If it happens again please try updating your Internet Explorer or resetting its settings to the default values.
If that does not help - please come to the live chat so we can check it remotely.
