studies import

Postby plaforte » 11 Aug 2018

Hello, I had MC installed on a pc that completely crashed no way to recover anything. I was doing a regular copy of the MC study folder. This is giving me .dll and .el versions of my home made studies. How can I import this to a new PC installation. I could only find this page but no mention of .dll or .el
https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... ng_Studies

I hope it can be done, I am a lousy programmer and have a hundred hours to eventually replicate this.

Thank you

Which Windows version you are using?

Use your FileExplorer,

Look under the root directory,
find the subdirectory ProgramData

Look for
\TS Support\MultiCharts64\StudyServer

Under \Studies, you will find files with .dll and .el extension.

Copy your backups over to the directory. Hope it works.

I am glad it worked. Thanks for reporting back.

Please make a habit to do backups every week.
You can copy the whole directory \MultiCharts64; you will always have the complete set of quotes and indicators.

Good trading to you.

how does this work now as there is no folder studyserver ? windows 7 64bit

update so i found a zip file that has studyserver in it. hopefully my data and symbols are in there also.

it looks like i have a 1 gig zip file backup or the previous day ver 12 install failure and a 200 mb file backup the day of the crash.

Hello Mark, my experience is exactly as written above. I had a pc crash and had to re-install MC on another computer but I had a simple file backup that I do manually every week of my databases, my studies and my workspaces. And with that I recovered everything. The problem I had was with the studies and TJ gave me the above instruction that I followed exactly as he wrote and I recovered all my personal studies. I keep doing the simple manual file backup and I also tried the new backup application available since MC11 but so far I got an error message that the backup was completed with errors. I did not have time to look into this, I think that my manual backup covers me in case of crash. I am backing up database and studies folder as per the default path in File/Preferences/Directories, My workspaces are in a folder in My Documents which I back up entirely every week.
I suggest that you open a thread with description of your problem, I am no specialist in PC and MC. Here is the link to the instruction for the backup application. Good luck, I hope for you that you will recover your work.
