problem using EOD metastock data

Postby Kaos » 01 Oct 2008

Hi All,

I have raised this problem before but I was wondering if I am the only one still struggling when using EOD metastock data.
---------------------------------------------------------
I collect data for stocks listed in Australia and US

Some 3 letter codes are used on both exchanges
eg: FXI is Fox Industries (in Aust)
and FXI is the China iShares Fund (in US)

To get both to be viewed in Quotemanager I have to add the directory
"c:\data\aust" to the metastock settings then add in metastock symbol FXI under the ASX exchange
Then go and remove that directory from the metastock settings list

Then go and add in "c:\data\us" to the metastock settings list then add in metastock symbol FXI under NYSE exchange
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To me this is a extreme waste of time
And this is only one code - Try doing this for 100's of codes

Is there a better way of managing metastock symbols from multiple exchanges?

Maybe add in an extra field to the quotemanager database that logs the directory of the symbol?

I should be able to add the 2 directories to the metastock data settings "c:\data\us"
"c:\data\Aust"
and automatically put all the symbols into the quotemanager

Hi Paul,

The reason you're experiencing the above problem is that metastock files do not containt the exchange field.

Normally, all symbols in MC are indentified by the combination of the following parameters: symbol name, symbol root, exchange, data provider.

However, since metastock files do not indicate the exchange, this field can't be used and symbols having the same name can't be separated. The only way to solve your problem would be to edit the metastock file and change the names for those symbols. To be honest, we don't know if metastock files can be edited.

Regards.
