Problem with multi-monitors and workspaces, IMPORTEND !

Postby radekj » 20 Jan 2009

I am using multi-monitors system for MC.

if i open one workspace and detach some windows and place them on diferent monitors (exampel monitor 1,2 and 3) and then try to open
another workspace to place it window (detached) on monitor 4 than
the windows from first workspace are hidden !

This happen also with the Stick-Option of detached windows.

So i never can see windows from two separate workspaces in the same time !

In the moment the only solution is to put all windows (instruments, indicators) on one workspace and this is not a good idea
or
to open more MC instances symultany (but this consums resource intensivly, by me MC run normaly on the 2GB RAM limit and windows xp x86 can max. adress 3GB RAM only)

Please change this behavior else MC on multi-monitors is useless !!!

ciao

ps: i am using far more than 4 monitors and two workspaces at this time

This is how it is supposed to work. You could always put a copy of the detached windows in both workspaces then they would always be visible.

Are you using any of the multi-monitor supporting software? Just two examples below:

http://matrox.com/graphics/en/products/ ... _software/

It must be changed, it is not ergonomic (it is terrible).

There is no reason why you could not see the windows (from different workspaces) on separate monitors at the same time (for programers: "alway on top window" win32 api funktionality).

if you trade one symbol say: es future (800tick, 1600tick, 3200tick, 1min, 5min, 15min, 30min, 60min,240min 480min,1 day and 1week resolution)
and this with index s&p and you use minimal intermarket analysis say:
dow, nasdaq, russell and dax you have:

12 windows x (5contracts + 5 indexs) = 120 windows !!! and this is
minimal configuration (normaly you need crude oil, EC and currecies and indicators ?), IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO PUT THIS ON ONE WORKSPACE !

Have you ever seen the delay if you switch between workspaces with so much windows and MC have to draw (repaint) the all windows from begin?

I must see the contract in the same time as the others indicators to see confirmation/no-confiramtion for trade entrys, sometimes i take look on workspace with long term indices (120min 480min, 1day and 1week) but i dont need to see them all the time.

Hi radekj,

Thank you very much for your comments.

You are right saying that the current behavior of workspaces/detached windows can be quite inconvenient with certain set-ups. We are planning to change this behavior in the versions of MultiCharts that will follow MultiCharts Gold.

Regards.

Hi Marina,

I thought the new workspace bug fix was going to be available in beta 5.3?

I run 4 monitors, 3 with MC and 1 with TWS. I stretch 1 workspace across three monitors and then place multiple windows within the workspace.
I hope this helps.

That doesn't help someone with 6 screens (3 over 3).

Hi flipflopper,

This issue is not related to the bug that you experienced. What radekj is talking about is the inconvenience of the current implentation of workspaces which makes it possible to only view one workspace at a time - no matter whether it has detached windows or not.

Regards.
