Correct Price Scale for Instruments (MBT)

Postby Henrik » 12 Jul 2010

Broker: MBT.
What is the correct "price scale" for some FX-pairs?

EUR/USD = 1/100000
USD/JPY = 1/1000
EUR/JPY = 1/1000

Correct?

This above is correct.

But I dont understand the BigPointValue.
In Quotemanager, BigPointValue of EURUSD for example is 1.
And for EURJPY or USDJPY? BigPointValue = 0.01 ???

If I set the BPV to 1 on EURJPY or USDJPY I have problems with the posisize in backtesting (MC multiple the results with ca. 100)

Hi Henrik,

BigPointValue is a numerical value, indicating the currency value of a single whole unit price change for the data series that the study is applied to.
If your account is in USD you need to set unit price of EURJPY or USDJPY in USD.

Have a nice day

Thank you!
My Account is in EUR.

Please give me an example for USDJPY and for EURJPY. I don't understand this.

Hi Henrik,

Currency values at Strategy Properties Settings (Commission, Slippage) and Profit values at Strategy Performance Report will be in the currency that you set for Big Point Value. (even though the dollar icon is used)
Your account is in EUR and in order to trade on this kind of account you need to set Big Point Value to EUR currency.

Example1
~~~~~~~~
BGP (USDJPY) = 1 JPY
EURJPY = 111.48
=> BGP (USDJPY) = 1/111.48 EUR = 0.00897 EUR
Example2
~~~~~~~~
BGP (EURJPY) = 1 JPY
EURJPY = 111.48
=> BGP (EURJPY) = 1/111.48 EUR = 0.00897 EUR

Example3
~~~~~~~~
BGP (EURUSD) = 1 $
EURUSD = 1.2598
=> BGP (EURUSD) = 1/1.2598 EUR = 0.79378 EUR
If you don't trade on this account you can set Big Point Value to different currency.
For example in JPY
BGP (USDJPY) = 1 JPY
or in USD
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BGP (USDJPY) = 1 JPY
USDJPY = 88.60
=> BGP (USDJPY) = 1/88.60 = 0.01129 $

Have a nice day

Thank you, Anastassia!

Suggestion: please add a feature to actualize the BGP daily
- manually
- automatic with finance.yahoo.com or other sources - Data.

Hi Henrik,
Suggestion: please add a feature to actualize the BGP daily
That is a great suggestion however it would be very hard to accompish from a technical point of view so it will not be implemented in the future.

Have a nice day
