IB Combo Order

Postby alex522 » 08 Jan 2011

In IB, you can create Combination order. Is there any way in MC that we can trade this combo order?

Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

You can send only Market, Stop and Limit orders from MC. In MC 7 we have added StopLimit orders.

Thanks a lot for your reply. Will Multicharts consider this feature in future release as this is essential to spreads or arbitrage trading?

Hello.
It has been more than 2 years now. Does any latest version of MC support IB Combo orders yet?

This could be done using external IB API dll function . Not a free solution, nor an easy one, but it could be done. I'm using these dll with Excel, but they could be use within MC to. Look for Trade Commander on google. With it, trades orders do reside on IB server, not in my PC

I'm sending in one shot, My entry target, stop loss and Limit profit orders. All of them stay on IB server, even if I close my PC

Yes, actually I have used this TWSLink a few years ago when it is still free. But I have just used that for reading stock price without loading the chart and reading Level 2 data. It's a convenient wrapper of the IB API that can do almost anything that IB can do.

Not sure why this is "solved". Buying and integrating an expensive third-party product: "IB API dll" isn't a solution.

I agree with alex522, is essential to spreads or arbitrage trading. MC's Portfolio Trader is badly compromised without combo orders. Should have been delivered at the same time as PT.

TWSLINK from Trade Commander is now free again. You could download there API and build your own set of orders. This could be managed from MC, but I built my solution in Excel.. My main need when I created my tools was to store the orders on IB server not on my PC.

"TWSLINK from Trade Commander" - integrating third-party functionality with MC is a workaround, not a solution. I expect MC would have no visibility via TWSLINK of whether orders are filled.

IB combo orders guarantee (in most markets) that both legs in a trade will be filled, or not at all. IB takes the risk if only one leg is, not you the trader. You will never end up exposed in a directional trade when you want to be neutral. Combo orders are a great IB feature, MC should get on and support them. Portfolio Trader is incomplete without.
