2 copies of database files

Postby Nick » 16 Mar 2011

Hi there, I just noticed that there seem to be two copies of each database file one at

C:\ProgramData\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases

and one at

C:\Users\All Users\TS Support\MultiCharts\Databases

I wondered can I delete one set? It seems like a waste of space (14gb in my case).

Dear Nick,

This is the same database - it is the same location, Windows virtualizes it. You can see it if you rename the database folder in one location - it will be renamed in other location too. So you should not delete these files.

Ahh right thanks. I guess it is something to do with UAC and different users writing to program data. As I am the only user not a problem :)

** I always keep the 3 most recent days of data and just rotate through them. I've had the data get corrupted and it's great to just swap it out with the previous days data , rather than have to re-load all of it..Esp if you have 100+ symbols..it really doesn't take up much drive space..

Yes having a backup strategy for important data is a good plan. I used to be quite rigorous but as time has gone by the data is probably not quite as clean and not backed up quite as often.
