Auto-trading MC with IB

Postby nlaporte » 29 Mar 2011

Hello,

I wish to apply a strategy to a large range of securities. Do I have to create for each of the security a chart and then activate the auto-trading feature?
Best,

N.

does your strategy require the calculation of more than one bar?

Surprised by your answer. If I read correctly the sharp meaning of the "yes"... it implies that if i do a strategy on, let's say, the full S&P 500...I do have to set 500 charts???? can any PC deal with that?
Thanks

N.

That's what it means, there has been some mention of portfolio trading capability which will be very welcome when it is made available.

MultiCharts is a chart-based trading software, all the strategies run off calculations on the chart... I don't know how else to initiate a trading strategy without a chart, or without loading the historic data in some format. There maybe a way, but I don't know of any product on the market that does that.

Regarding autotrade, no software company would allow a trader to start trading without passing a specific "Warning" and "Acknowledgement" window; that would be too much risky, both for the trader and the software company.

Just my 2 cents.

ps. I know of one person who runs 150 charts with his MultiCharts.

Hello,
not agree, MT (and cartainly 5) permit it. After configurated, you have just to close and each time you open the software, it is ready to trade.

For using it during 1 year on many accounts, it's the most robust and simple software for trading auto. (about backtest it's really not the case)
And you can't use it with IB or many other broker

not only you have to open each chart - you also have to fill in the broker configuration on each chart.

Portoflio trading is an important feature, that will take considerable time and effort to implement properly. At the moment there is no ETA for this feature, but we will update you when it's on the way.
