Multiple Monitor Usability Issues

Postby MidKnight » 09 Mar 2016

Most traders have several screens. MC.net has a few usability issues around multiple screens that make simple tasks tedious and unnecessary.
  • Opening a new chart spans nearly the entire application of MC.net. If you stretch your MC.net across your entire screen real estate then you have re-adjust your chart to a reasonable size manually every time. Then there is the issue of maybe you are just monitoring the markets in your primary display and the rest are turned off. In this case, you need to find the chart, and drag it around to your primary display several times while you re-adjust the chart dimensions. All this mucking around just to get the chart viewable, and not even tackle your chosen task at hand.
  • Some setting windows such as format chart, and format trendline to name a few, popup somewhere else. For example again, lets say you are monitoring markets in your primary display only and the rest of your screens are turned off. You decide to do something like change a trendline colour so you right click format. The settings window pops up somewhere else in a different display than your primary display.
These are some examples and I'm sure there are more because there is zero effort put into making this friendly for multiple displays. Your application is for traders, please consider this when you examine usability of your product. The current implementation is not user friendly.

With kind regards,
MK

Hello MidKnight,

Thank you for your comments. Let me reply in order:
1) This is the default Microsoft Windows functionality for Multiple-Document Interface (MDI) Applications. Changing this behavior will go against Microsoft best practice directions.
2) The "Format" window pops up on the screen where your mouse pointer is currently located.

1. MS doesn't always know best. This best practice is not useful for traders. Its tedious to resize a new chart down from 1 meter wide to something more reasonable like 30cm.

2. This is not true. I just quadrouple checked this. It always pops up on my right monitor no matter what screen I have the mouse pointer on.
