Chart Drawing Discrepancy

Postby datamonkey » 25 Oct 2016

Hi,

I have an unusual situation where 2 charts using the same resolution, data feed, chart type etc are drawing different charts for the same market.

As you can see on the attached image, both charts are NQZ6 contract, Renko 1.5 bars, 233 tick. Both have Ichimoku trend lines drawn on. Problem is both are drawing different Renko patterns. How can this be?

On the Renko bar number "1" on the left chart the bar is drawn through the Tenkan line with a high of 4907.50, the same bar on the right chart has a high of 4906.50 and is completely drawn above the Tenkan line.

Same thing for bar "2" which has clearly made a new low on the left chart (low of 4897) but doesn't make a new low on the right chart (low of 4897.50).

These are using Rithmic data feed. Anyone explain why this is happening?

Thanks

It looks like both charts have a different starting bar and thus making them have a different starting price. Try using the exact same starting price on both charts and they should mirror each other.

With kind regards,
MK

Thanks MK, that made total sense and was something I hadn't thought of. In fact I thought it was the issue when I read your post but changing both charts to start at the same time, 20 days back, both bars open/close on same price, the issue remains... Strange.

Do you have any other suggestions please?

As a side note and something probably unrelated. One chart shows session breaks, the other doesn't even though they are both set up the same. I know this has been resolved in an upcoming MC update but shows there's something a bit odd going on with my charts!

Hi datamonkey, the indicator plots are different too. Are both charts referencing the same bars back?

Hi, yes this occurs when the charts are set to the same date/time or number of bars back...!

Any ideas?

The only other thing I can think of is to confirm the X-Time Scale settings match, although I don't know if the extra decimal places in the one chart would account for the plot differences.

Cheers

Yeah it's an odd situation for sure and can't find any discrepancy in the settings. Nevermind I guess I can live with it!

Ok thanks. What is the update installer file page as when I click on "Help > Check for Updates" I get "You are currently using the latest version of Multicharts".

Thanks

Is it safe to trade live on a Beta version?

It is pretty stable but we recommend testing it using a demo / sim connection first. Only when your setup is thoroughly tested you can consider going live with it.

My setup on an iMac VM has been perfect for the last two years. Just not sure I want to add any more risk to trading than already exists by using "testing" software! Thanks.
