Setting bar intervals for charts with multiple symbols

Postby rjelles » 28 Jun 2014

Setting and changing bar intervals on charts with multiple symbols in MC64.Net and MC64 can be tedious because the settings for every symbol need to be changed manually. eSignal 11 handles this nicely by including a checkbox "As main interval", which results in all symbols automatically following the interval for the first symbol on the chart. This simple feature would be very welcomed if it can be included in an upcoming release. Thanks!

Hello rjelles,

This functionality is already available. Please see Linking Charts by Resolution

Hi Henry,

Yes, the existing method works but it places an artificial limit (17) on the number of charts and symbol groups that can be controlled. It's very easy to overrun this limit with several active workspaces and multiple symbols per chart.

Also a minor bug with the existing method: when one of the subchart symbols is set to use "Cumulative Delta" bars, it gets reset to the bar types of the main symbol when the resolution period is changed.

Best regards,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

That is possible to open another instance of MultiCharts. The linking feature will work per workspaces of one instance.

That is not a bug. That is expected behavior.

Hi Henry -

But the chart type is selected using an entirely different control. When the chart resolution is changed for the main symbol, it doesn't make sense that this would also trigger a change to chart type, in this case from "Cumulative Delta" to "Regular" each time. It's inconsistent with the rest of the product controls and defeats the purpose and convenience of the group controls.

In the attached example, I have a chart main symbol set for 15 minutes using regular bars, and the same symbol as a subchart using cumulative delta bars. When I switch to 60 minutes, I would expect just the chart period to change and everything else in including the subchart type to stay the same. But instead I need to either not use the resolution group feature at all or manually reset the chart.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Jeff
