Trouble with IB - Two contracts same expiry month

Postby lantama » 22 Jan 2009

Hello, I am trading with IB for almost 2 years now. So it is no newbie issue.

Somehow MC shows me in Quote Manager that the NGG9 and the NGH9 are both expiring in Feb 09. When I try to load data for NGH9 it says "No Data". When I try to place an order via API it says "No security definition has been found".

Maybe MC can differ between the two contracts?

hello,
most probably, the symbols are different by multiplier.
to identify those contracts, you need to specify multiplier.

I mean can not differ between the two contracts. Same symbolroot NG, multiplier, etc., but expiring on different days in Feb 09

Hi, any news on this one? IB / TWS Nat Gas Future NGH9 @Nymex shows error "No Symbol" in MC 4. If you ask because the only difference between NGG9 (Feb Contract) and NGH9 (March) is the expiry DAY not month. So MC cannot distinguish between the two contracts?!
This is causing major trouble with me (no Trading). Could you please check....

did you switch data source at one time?
I have found that this can happen as the original symbol gets corrupted by the second data source.
when you switch back to the original data source, your chart creates could not find the original database and starts a new one.

Hi lantama,

IB sometimes sends their symbols with wrong expiration months (I have seen it on several users' pc's). To have the data plotted, simply change the contract month in both the symbol name and the symbol description .

If you need help with that, please contact us via LiveChat.
