IB TWS Workstation (Round the clock running)

Postby Spaceant » 09 Jun 2009

Hi,

I am sure some of you have use other softwares (like TWSStart) to do that. I have tried to use TWSStart, but failed. Could anyone help me the settings by posting the image files to show the settings or PM me?

Regards,

Sa

I've written a program that checks if tws is running and if not it will log back into tws. It uses a bunch of Windows gui API calls to make sure the Login window is in focus, etc. I need to test it thoroughly but so far it works fine except for one occasion when the Login screen took too long to come up yet my program said it was up. Stupid Windows is to blame so I need to modify it to make it foolproof. As for the login details I store them encrypted in a file but I like to use a super strength encryption algorithm.

Another idea is to convince IB to log us out once a week not every day. I'd be happy with that without an auto-login program.

I used to use a macro to login after TWS shutdown, it worked great but now they require a mechanical password generator, how do you get around that ?

For me TWSStart (2.4.3.3460) works fine, the specific settings are:

Data Handling Method: "SDH: Alternate 1"

Additional Java Options: "-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Xmx256M jclient/LoginFrame C:\Jts"

Danilo

you can opt-out of the device.

just fill up a form at account management.

Hi Danilo,

1) What is the purpose of using Method: "SDH: Alternate 1"?

2) Where can I set the Java Options?

3) Well, I have experienced a problem - the Username and Password can't be saved properly. When I use TWSStart to open TWS more than one time, say twice, it appears to me that the Username and Password will be stored twice. So, when I re-open TWSStart again, I need to press the "Clear" icon and re-key-in the info again. How can I resolve that?

Sa

this is referring to IB's security device.

that means if you prefer not to have the security device... you don't have to.
it is not mandatory.

1 & 2)
Please find attached some picture that show the TWSStart settings.

3)
The login and passwords are saved properly only after a successful login.

Regards,
Danilo

P.S.
my OS is Windows XP, I have never tested TWSStart on Vista

I understand you loose their insurance, but how can you do to use

TWSSTART with this security mesure ?
:?:

Each time you have to enter manually their code , to start the TWS

How do you keep TWS runnning 24 hours with this security code ? :?:

I can see in the log of TWS, where the question is ask but you still have to enter manually the answer. don't you ? :?:

Try to stay awake once every 12 hours?

TWSStart has a monitor settings option for bypassing the Auto Logoff Time so you think you can in theory keep TWS running 24/7.

In reality, nobody will trade real money with unattended 24/7 autotrading and IB. Just ask Andrew, I'll bet he won't do it and he must be about a 100x better EL programmer than you or I. IB Server resets and disconnects in addition to TWS and MC errors will always represent a danger of mismatched strategy and server side position.

I have tested the TWSStart with the same settings, but TWSStart just can't change the "Auto Logoff" time to let TWS to run 24 hours a day.

Can anyone help?

TJ,

There is no updated instruction. The FAQs don't cover all stuff and the "documentation of TWSStart" in the download area only covers 2.0 (old stuff).

Is there any updated instructions available per your understanding?

I may have resolved it as TWSStart did change the logoff time last night.

Please can you give info about your settings, it may be useful for other users who may want to try it out.
