Possword protection

Postby marekj » 18 Sep 2009

Is it possible implement (as configuration option) a dialog that will ask about password, when Multicharts are started? This will be useful when Multicharts are installed on some kind of "public" computer.

Hi,

+ 1 Vote

 This is a good idea

This is usefull, It is protecting the strategy from foreign eyes.

And this is good for security reason, to avoid any mistake by people who have nothing to do inside your MC, in your work group.

We definively need it.

note: Password to MC will not protect your studies from foreign eyes...
[edited] because the studies are saved outside of the MC program.

Code Protection is available in MC right now.
You can protect your codes in 2 methods:

1. save the study with a password.
from PLE, select Tools> Protect Study...

2. use File> Export Read-Only
this is the compiled method.
The exported study can only be used by MC of the same version.

Hi,

Thank you TJ for your reply.

TJ, Can you tell in which folder as the indicator in MC ? :?:

I would like a optional password :
 - to start MC without being able to add or remove chart and strategy,

- and one optional password to start MC with the possibility to add or remove chart and strategy.

Hi

In MS Vista, go to ProgramData/TS Support/Multicharts/StudyServer.

In MS XP, if I'm not mistaken, since I'm at this moment reinstall it  , go to Documents and Settings/ your user name/TS Support/Multicharts/StudyServer.

The password idea is nice, though it would be more useful in PLE.

Fernando

Hi, :)

Fernando, thank you for your answer

What do you mean PLE ?
In MS Vista, go to ProgramData/TS Support/Multicharts/StudyServer.
I was able to read the indicator directly with the notepad, even when it is "protected", I am using the version powereditor 5.0.2258 ?

In fact when it is "protected", you can not open it with powereditor but you can still open it with notepad ??!! :!: :?: :?: :!: :? :? :?
And you can read it :? :?

this is strange, do you have the same on your computer ?

PLE = PowerLanguage Editor

What do you mean that you can read a protected study in notepad?

Did you export the study as read-only?

It's impossible for you to read a exported read-only study in notepad, it's all gibberish.
