Sim trades?

Postby ctrlbrk » 12 Mar 2010

I did a search on the forum, and have looked everywhere in MultiCharts 6.0 beta 2, but I can find no way to review or enable sim trading.

I understand there is no DOM. I am talking about automated entries, but I don't want to send them to a broker until I sim trade them for a few days. My broker is Zen Fire so I have no option for a broker-side sim/paper account.

Am I missing something? Or is there just no way to have a strategy kick off trades in "sim" mode and monitor them, view performance report, etc on a day-by-day basis. To make myself clear (since I am coming from NT I might use weird terminology), I am wanting to add a strategy to a chart, let it trade for the day, then come back end of day and view all the trades it took and the performance report for those trades.

Thanks for helping! :)

Mike

if you want to test a strategy,
you can use InteractiveBroker's demo system or papertrading account.

1. papertrading account (for account holders only)
you can apply it through account management.
it works the same as your real account
real time quote

2. demo system (no account or registration needed)
replay of day old data

click on TWS demo

Thanks TJ. So you're saying with 'demo', I can still place real-time trades? I don't care about delayed data, but it will work with MC real-time? In other words, Zen Fire or IQfeed will be powering my chart, and I just need to track strategy performance in sim mode... is this 'demo' account enough to trick MC into doing this?

I had an IB account a while back, but no longer after switching to futures.

Ugh, that means I have to install TWS too? Ugh ugh ugh... I hate that thing.

You don't have to install TWS... this is the Demo only.

Multicharts Sim Trading

Have you thought of connecting MC to NT using the NT ELD?

This way you can fire your trades through NT which will allow you to use NT's performance data etc.

Finally got it working using Custom Futures - seems to work ok, but only tried it in SIM mode with ESignal data

I have the same need as Mike.
Zen/Mirus is a realtime, $ account. But they also DO have demo accounts.

Anyone knows if it's possible to share the data feed between two accounts inside MC? Then I could run a demo trade system on the demo acct, and the real trades on the $ acct.
