Setting up data / folders

Postby brucev » 07 Aug 2010

Hi,

apologies for what seems a simple question - still a noobee with MC!

I am setting up existing metastock data in multicharts, which I get through a 3rd party (norgate).

The 3rd party automatically seperates data into various folders, and I would like to replicate this process in MC, but can't see how.

Example:
Folder 1 - ASX20 - contains top 20 stocks in ASX
Folder 2 - ASX200 - contains top 200 stocks in ASX
Folder 3 - ASX100 - contains top 100 stocks in ASX
etc, etc

Is there a simple way to replicate this structure? I would like to set my data up like this, as I have different strategies for different data folders. As well as folders set up by index, I also have folders set up by sector, etc.

All in all, about 50 folders.

I tried cloning the metastock data source, and creating it that way, but didn't get very far.... comments are appreciated!

Cheers,
Bruce

really, nobody knows how to do this?
Doesn't anyone on this forum trade stocks ? - its a pretty standard thing to have different scripts for either different sectors or different indicies.

Dear Bruce,

You should add all your folders to QM-->Tools-->Data Sources-->Metastock and then replicate the structure that you need using workspaces.

Hi Dave,
if I set up a workspace for each one, how could I do backtesting etc?
Cheers,
Bruce
