Multicharts Elite Forum - what if I am an anti-elitist?

Postby Tresor » 01 Feb 2011

Elitism: is the belief or attitude that some individuals ... [have] extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom [that] render them especially fit to govern. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elitism

What if I am anti-any-government? What if I am an anarchist? What if I dislike the prospect of being 'fit to govern'?

Please put the word 'premium' or similar word, but not 'elite'.

Premium is a saltine cracker or a type of gasoline.
I resent the hell out saltines. And gas... Don't get me started. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premium

Please change the forum name to Multicharts Masters of the Universe Forum.

That would be awesome.

Still getting 'Topic reply notification - "Multicharts Elite Forum - something' by e-mail.

Woud be nice if topic notification was also deprived of the word 'elite' to keep consistency.

Premium is fine. However, where are the others types of MiltiCharts forums? For example, Standard and/or Regular? Premium relates to a level of quality, specifically top-rate or first-class. Perhaps Primary would be a better description of the main MultiCharts forum for discussions related to the official releases of MC.

I'd like to think that we are an "elite" group, compared to those with less sophisticated software.
We have some of the best programmers-traders. Why should we be ashamed of it ?
"Elite" to me, means exclusive and striving to be the best we can be, not arrogant.
Lets put it to a vote...

We are just guys who paid $1.5k more for their software - nothing more! $1.5k doesn't make us elite. $1.5k doesn't even make us smarter.

So what does that make some of the other platforms that are far more expensive and reserved for the true professional trader, in particular those who trade Forex with millions of dollars and day traders? Super elite? As for "less sophisticated software" there are certainly plenty of them but that doesn't mean there aren't any that are more sophisticated than MC. I believe there are a few. Elitism may not be an arrogant attitude but it certainly is not without prejudice.

We are talking about words, aren't we?

A word is just a word. Its meaning depends of our ability to recognize that.
We are talking about an internet forum, where I don't see how the word "elite" can be detrimental.

I actually looked at "elite" forum as a zone where only registered MC customers could write.

Those who paid for an MC licence are a restricted group. We cannot escape from that classification. We can say that who bought MC belong to an elite group, a premium group, a restricted group, I even like the idea of a master of universe group :P.

It's like those who belong to a church, a hunting club, a private school, work at Google, live in a private condominium. All are restricted groups, not by any meaning a detrimental word.
Elite means restricted, nothing else.

I actually blame the media for the bad connotation the "elite" word has in the world.

an elite

— a select group of people with intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience,
or other distinctive attributes

— are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously
or
carry the most weight
or
those who view their own views as so;
whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole;

or

whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.
