MULTICHARTS 7 BETA 4 RELEASE -- Questions/Issues

Postby admin » 26 May 2011

The main theme of MultiCharts 7 Beta 4 were usability and stability – we fixed as many open issues found both internally and by our users as we could find, and added new features to accommodate requests by users. Several new features were introduced improving OpenPL calculations, behavior of scripts, Custom Futures, improvements to market data playback, and others. We fixed a number of issues that users found bothersome, and we fixed a large amount of bugs to improve overall performance and user experience. Next version will be Release Candidate, followed by the official release sometime in June 2011.

Hi i installed beta 4.

a few of my indicators are listed now as status: "unverified" and subchart: "hidden".

when i make a new chart and choose insert studies i see those indicators listed as ready.
but unfortunately i cant add them to my new chart.

The installation overwrites the Dictionary.csv at databases and creates a
Dictionary.csv.BackUp_Version_4 file. As the new Dictionary.csv doesnt have the symbol roots for some european custom futures created earlier, could i rename the Dictionary.csv.BackUp_Version_4 to Dictionary.csv and replace it or will i miss some new settings/features ?

I have just installed the beta4 version.

MC seems to work properly with IB, but after a couple of hour of trading the strategy on MC that was in position start to send the same orders for 6,7,8 times until i put the strategy in offline mode.

Which can be the reason?!

I have an issue in beta 4 regarding custom futures (CF)
I loaded an existing CF based on QCL. Responded with no data in chart or in market scanner.
I tried recreating the same CF with a new name, and it worked.
BUT when I restarted Mc, the newly created CF had no data as well.

I'm seeing some delay on PnL using IB.

MC is telling me that I have a -2 ticks position when actually the position is at +7 ticks. Then, came down again to -2 ticks while IB continues at +7 ticks.
Prices rose to +12 ticks and MC was indicating a +7 ticks.

I'm using the new TWS version (Build 917.8, May 24, 2011 3:03:14 PM).

Fernando

Is there a way to dock the DOM to the respective symbol chart?
Something similar to the chart trading panel?

Unverified status means the studies are not compiled. Please open your PowerLanguageEditor and go to Compile menu and choose All Uncompiled.

Yes, you can rename the Dictionary.csv.BackUp_Version_4 to Dictionary.csv and replace it. I would backup the new file just in case though. You won't miss new settings.

I can't tell what happened without workspaces, logs, OPT logs, and your strategy. If the problem reproduces, please attach all of the information requested above and we will investigate.

Can you show us in Live Chat, or if the problem reproduces, attach your workspace/logs/your database files (dictionary.csv, and your three database files)?

Unverified status means the studies are not compiled. Please open your PowerLanguageEditor and go to Compile menu and choose All Uncompiled.

Unfortunately that is not possible.
Message "indicator is read only"...

and i see the indicator in studylist as "ready"

Beta 4 has two option for displaying PnL from IB - one based on bid/ask and one based on Last Trade. We feel that calculation on Ask/Bid is more accurate, but it's slower to update than when it's set to Last Trade. In beta 4 you can open the Interactive Brokers broker plugin and change the appropriate setting. See attached image.

Rad-only files in MultiCharts are version specific. Read-only files exported from Beta 3, for instance, can be imported and used only in Beta 3. This is because our read-only files are in binary, which is version-specific. Even though this feature may appear inconvenient to some, it guarantees supreme protection for holders of intellectual property rights of scripts.

Ask/Bid calculations are slower to update? This means you've changed something in beta 4 because with beta 3 I never saw any delay.

Right now I had +8 ticks profit and PnL was showing 0 ticks. Them moved to +6 , IB continued to show +8, and came down again to 0 when IB continued in +8.

This is the opposite of what beta 3 showed.

As far as I know nothing was changed in PnL display from IB when based on Bid/Ask from beta 3 to beta 4. Can you make a video comparing the two versions? The two should function the same on the same setting.

I'm also seeing strange P&L calculations. I'm using the DOM and the calculations completely incorrect a lot of the time. I had issues in Beta 3 but that looked like it was more related to the speed of the updated price in the DOM.

I tried to post this yesterday, but it appears to have disappeared...

I have an issue in beta 4 regarding custom futures (CF)
I loaded an existing CF based on QCL. MC retrieved no data in the chart or in market scanner.
I tried recreating the same CF with a new name, and it initially worked.
BUT once I restarted MC, the newly created CF had no data as well.

I confirmed that all the contract symbols are present in the database (I'm using the database from beta 3). I am unable to get data for any of the CF that were previously set up under beta 3.

After a couple of hours connected to my MC, comparing PnL's between beta 3 and beta 4, TSSupport engineers confirmed that there are issues with PnL that they are going to investigate.

Now is just a question of waiting...

Make sure you have "Symbol" in your Symbol Directory, I had similar problem with DAX symbol when I upgraded to MC beta 4, for some strange reasons it seems to disappear from the Symbol list.

I will look at it again.

This is partly a test message. My last couple of posts have not appeared.
As well, the index suggests there were 24 replies at this time but I only see 12.
And many of the posts are mislabelled. See example below:

Hi,

may I'm drunk or stupid, but can't install MC7beta4 on another folder or place than c:\Program Files (x86)\..... . I I change the folder where to place to c:\Program Files\Multicharts it will be installed on c:\Program Files (x86)\Multicharts. Same on other folders or places. Further if I change the registry for the place where the databases are placed and I copied my old beta3 databeses there, I get error messages xxxx etc etc.

Further I'm totally disappointed that my suggestion, from my posts for beta1 up to beta3, to put "trading days" for data range instead of "calendar days" is still not fixed. It can't be so difficult to change it. MC is the only one software which is using calendar days. Further it's important to have steady data range for arrays on a fixed "days back" rule.

My I have to sleep 8 hours to loose my drunk status ;o). Just kidding.

Good night.

Mike

The P and L in the Position line on Chart trading is incorrect on every tick change. Seems like it picks up the wrong tick value.

Dear Mike,

Not very clear what you were trying to do, and what you were trying to achieve. Can you go through it one step at a time, explaining each step? For example, did you already have beta 3? Did you try to install beta 4 at the same time as beta 3, but into a different folder? Step by step from the very beginning please, then we will be able to answer your question better.

Dear Stan ....

thank you for your quick reply after holiday. No I tried to make an installation for beta4 on a clean system where beta3 or any other version of Multicharts was installed. In the installation process I tried to change the folder where Multicharts has to be installed. I made following steps in the changing process, like I always do and also did in the installation process of beta 3, beta1 and release version 6.x. May first I have to say I'm working with WinServer2008R2 x64 version.

I changed the suggested folder from installation process from :

C:\\Program Files (x86)\TSSupport\Multicharts .... to D:\\Multicharts .... (1st try)
C:\\Program Files (x86)\TSSupport\Multicharts .... to C:\\Program Files\Multicharts .... (2nd try after full de-installation with all user data etc.)
C:\\Program Files (x86)\TSSupport\Multicharts .... to C:\\Program Files (x86)\XYZ .... (3rd try after full de-installation of try two with all user data etc.)

On all 3 steps Multicharts were installed on C:\\Program Files (x86)\Multicharts. On the fourth try i did not changed anything and MC is installed in C:\\Program Files (x86)\TSSupport\Multicharts

Regards. Hope it's more clear now for you.

Thanks for the clear explanation Mike.

Our QA team tried to reproduce the problem on W7 64-bit and WinServer2008 32-bit - it installed in the new directory that was specified during the install. We could not check on WinServer2008 64-bit since we don't have this OS installed on any machines. In theory, you should be able to install into the folder you specify. Please come to our Live Chat so we can monitor the installation and determine what the problem is.

Has anyone noticed any price lag with this beta 4?

Something just happened that I never saw with this computer. I have 4 6E charts, all with 500 contract resolution, but all with different indicators. The same workspace and indicators that I had with beta 3.
All of a sudden prices on 6E moved fast and I started to see prices lagging between all 4 charts and my CPU going to 80%.

Since I assembled this computer (I5 with 4Gb of memory and an SD drive) I never saw this type of reaction, basically, since version 6.
To tell you the truth, I never saw this CPU working above 50% during market time. It has gone above that when opening all workspaces online or offline, but never during market time.

I don't know, but I'm starting to feel that something is not good with this beta 4.
First the the PnL delay that the engineers said that is working fine, and know this reaction.

I'm absolute with you. On my side charts sometimes are lagging. From my personal feeling beta4 is slower, but can't confirm it with regular numbers. It's just a personal feeling.

I have tried both settings and am getting erratic (incorrect) displays from both. I changed to last trade and display fluctuates from the correct number to other numbers quite often very far away (more than one ES point) from the actual correct P&L.

Here are some more of my observations. I’m using IB and TWS:

1) As noted before the P&L show in the DOM is incorrect, it looks like randomly generated numbers at times, for both price and tick values.

2) When I place an order in the DOM and then place another order to scale in and add-on to an existing open position at a better price, both strategies for P&L target and Stop Loss target are merged for both entries and there is no way to separate these, additionally each order is not treated as a separate entry when placed in TWS. This is not how I have found other platforms to treat the DOM entries, i.e. NT treats both positions as separate entries in TWS.

3) Underlying futures contract information is removed from TWS after a position is closed. This means that I have to keep on entering the futures contract information in TWS to view the P&L in TWS, again other platforms do not remove the information from TWS for an underlying contract in the Position window when a position is closed.

An additional feature that I would like to see in the DOM is to highlight the best bid/ask price, is it possible to add this in the next beta or RC? Most other platforms also have this.

What I'm posting here is what the engineers and Andrew already saw 2 days ago in my computer. They said this is a normal reaction.
This can be many things, but normal... I'm sure it ain't.
Sometimes the lag is too big.

Since Europe has already closed, EUR futures quotes are much more quiet now, because with fast moves, that lag becomes very problematic.

During this morning, for example, I had +8 ticks in EUR, but MC PnL was plotting zero, but all of a sudden jumped to +6 ticks while TWS continued to indicate +8.

I continue to say that beta 3 never showed this type of lag.
1 tick lag is one thing, but 5 or more...

The settings for PnL calculation in the video is best bid/ask.

You'd said to us that this type of calculation is much more accurate than the last trade, which most of us agreed, but this type of lag completely removes that accuracy.

Fernando

What is the lag when you use the Last Trade PnL calculation? As bad, or better?

Here is a video where we can see the Last Trade PnL calculation.

http://www.screencast.com/users/Fernand ... f538a63420

When we compare both videos, we can see that Last Trade plots a more accurate PnL then Best Bid/Ask, although a lag continues to be present.

I think the coloring on the zoom buttons (with the red to highlight it being in effect) was a bit better than the way it is now. Not a big problem of course but it made it stand out more.

Postby bowlesj3 » 06 Jun 2011

I was going to submit this as a request (I mentioned it in a forum post a long time ago) but the change in this release suggests it should be submitted at part of MC 7.0.

In the picture attached, you can see that the wider arrow is shifted the other way in MC 7.0 (the point of the arrows is to the right of the bar rather than pointing exactly at it dead on). In the prior releases it was actually shifted the other side of the bar. The smaller arrow is perfect now (in the prior releases it was out of center on the left a tiny bit). In the prior release it was only the up arrows that had the problem.

For me it creates a bit of a problem because I am forever going back to see if I have the arrow positioned properly so I get the correct information I want for that particular bar submitted into my program logic. If I visually misread it it creates a problem. I have in the past had the logic try and find the top or bottom but that creates a problem so I decided to change it back so I have to get it dead on manually. So essentially this problem slows me down.

So for TSS to test this you have to zoom in on the bars so it is very easy to see and when the arrow snaps to the bar (because of the very wide zoom) you can very easily see that the graphics has to be redone.

I added a second arrow of the same style from a different bar size and this arrow is pointing down. The shift is the same (to the right).

Regarding the above post about the wider arrows being out of line, if TSS leaves the arrow highlighted while the chart is zoomed in very close you can very clearly see that the arrow is out of line with the highlight box. I tried to send a picture of it but the capture process seems to take out the highlight.

Actually, I just realized that I can use the highlight box to help me make sure I have the arrow positioned on the correct bar (I just have to develop the habit of remembering). From a TSS perspective that kind of suggests it should be fixed.

I will be submitting a request to have MC (as a user option of course) keep the cross hair on when an arrow is being highlighted for moving to a new location (and such that it locks the arrow in line with the cross hair). Again it is a prior request and I just have to get around to finding it for cut and paste into your Project Management system.

I tried selecting every arrow style on the list and most of them are shifted out of center with the highlight box. Most of the arrows with a tail are okay. I think what I am going to do is change my program to a style that is lined up and change the size and color instead so I can see when something special is occurring with that bar. A large dotted tail arrow which is changed to red is a good way to make it stand out yet it is lined up properly.

It is also good to check the arrow's text box against the arrow highlight box. It appears to be lined up.

NEW INFO! I just discovered that sometimes this corrects itself. I am trying to figure out when it goes off. I discovered it by changing the arrow style. It seems that if I reset things to my original arrow style and turn the study off then on again the same problem occurs again exactly as the pictures above show.

My guess is someone has reported this. I just noticed that the Editor is allowing me to see the MC charts behind it in a few places. Come to think of it this may be a windows resources problem since I got a strange error about resources just a while ago. Anyway, I will leave this here just in case it is an MC editor problem and TSS wants to see that more than one person has this issue.

I had to reboot my machine due to memory issues. I can get rid of some apps I run up to an extent. However I have no doubt that TSS is going to be forced to (in the end) make their program modular just like IB's TWS is modular. Maybe even with TWS's feature of notifying that a user is not using something and they should consider unchecking that app so memory and resource can be freed up.

I say this for two reasons.

I have noticed a pattern of increased memory problems with my 3 main upgrades of MC (from 2.1.999... to MC 6.0 to MC 7.0). It mainly creates problems in other apps even though MC itself seems to run okay.

The other reason is there have been major additions to MC that I will never use. For example I never have and will never use chart trader, manual order execution from MC, auto trading order execution from MC, back testing, portfolio tracking, and the scanner. I am sure if MC was designed to ask me if I want these items loaded and I said no these memory issues would not occur (NEVER OCCUR). In fact there are a lot of drawing tools I am not using too so maybe these could be unchecked for load if I have not included them in the custom tool bar. However I will always need the full power of EL coding even if I do not submit orders by EL. I would also want all available charting features. I use the PlayBack a lot too since I practice triggering.

So tomorrow I will try to avoid doing any extra stuff such as sending bmp captured pictures of arrows and see if I get any memory issues.

John.

Here is another arrow that is out of line. This time it is the smaller arrow that does not normally go out of line. The highlight box which is not showing because of the picture capture is roughly centered with the text above the arrow (text is 100). The arrow is off to the left side of center. You can see a dotted line moving down and to the right. This is created by my EL script and is the true center of the arrow on the bar. So it appears that the picture parts of all arrows are many times slipping both right of center and left of center visually on the chart. This is a lot different than I thought based upon a consistent left of center in MC 6.0 and mostly with arrows that point up (more noticeable with the bigger style arrow). So it appears that for whatever reason the charting is getting a bit confused as to where to actually draw the graphic. I think the normal left of center problem with the bigger arrow was occurring way back on MC 2.1.999.999.

One thing I noticed today. If I changed the arrow style in my parameters for the study which creates these the arrows started to line up regardless of style. However I did not spend any time moving the arrows around the chart to mark new waves as they appeared.

Too, who ever got the idea to put the tool bar icons down the left side of the menus, it is a great idea (and thanks to TSS for putting it in). I don't remember ever seeing that before (just the short cut keys on the right side).

I guess it is time to dump all my prior ideas into the Project Management system (it is now on my list for this weekend). I guess a quick scan to avoid duplications is in order.

Getting back to my suggestion that MC eventually should be modular so users can unselect what they are not going to use (a suggestion I will eventually get into Project-Management), I fired up MC 7.0 beta 4 on the notebook this morning. Here is a direct measure of what I am talking about (some estimates).
MC 2.1.999.999 probably took a minute to load.
MC 6.0 probably took 3 minutes to load.
MC 7.0 I figure takes 5 minutes (loading a fair chunk of stuff I do not use).

Of course my notebook is no hot shot machine (Win XP SP2 HP Intel Celetron 430 @ 1.73 GH at 504 MB of ram). I am aware the Celetron chip is a defective chip and I figure this machine is well clogged with junk. However this is a reality of your users. There will be times when they do not want to upgrade their machine or it could be a long time before they find the time.

All I do on the notebook is review charts, do stats on my semi automatic trigger system and at times do some EL coding. I never run a live feed on that machine. Replay runs like an absolute dog (I think it actually locks it up) so I never try.

My solution to te 5 minute load will be to start it up very early, close the notebook with MC running and when I am ready to use it I will not have to wait (cost, more batteries in land fill sites).

Having said that, it loads pretty fast on the main machine which has a gig of ram and is dual core.

Dear bowlesj3,

Thank you for your very detailed observations and reports. Just wanted to note that MC7 and MC 2.1 are very different programs, many new features and levels of complexity were added in versions leading to MC7.

I am aware the Celetron chip is a defective chip and I figure this machine is well clogged with junk. However this is a reality of your users. I believe a 64-bit version will address many memory and performance issues. It is relatively cheap nowadays to get a simple quad core i7 with 16GB of RAM - and that much will be enough to do a whole lot more with MultiCharts. If Moore's Law stays true, then it will be even cheaper later on as technology progresses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law)

Thanks Stan,

Yes I agree, I should get myself a new more powerful notebook (and desk top for that matter). Part of my delay has to do with my needing to upgrade some of the software I have written (an unknown amount of work at present since I may need to rewrite parts of it). When the force (problems cropping up) exceeds the resistance (work I have to do) I will start planning a move. Right now I am enjoying a bit of holiday from my 3.75 years of programming EL, etc. Looks like the party may end soon, LOL.

This is true though of course it is no reason not to write the tightest, leanest most efficient code possible. Some people do not want to upgrade their machines every year others (myself included) trade from a laptop so they can travel easily.

Laptops have also benefited by Moore's law, my new 'Sandy Bridge' Asus is more powerful than most desktops where a few months ago. It also ways twice as much as my old mac book pro. I would really like longer battery life and lighter luggage. I like the idea of modular design rather than monolithic behemoths!

if you use Stop o limit order, it should be this bug
https://www.multicharts.com/pm/viewissue ... _no=MC-406

Order is rejected by IB, and MC send it again and again and again.

If you not notice that, after a time IB should lock you account.
No kidding !!!

MC seems to work properly with IB, but after a couple of hour of trading the strategy on MC that was in position start to send the same orders for 6,7,8 times until i put the strategy in offline mode.

Which can be the reason?!

Hi Nick,

Could you clarify what it is that you want us to do, and what you mean by modular design? If you mean multiple processes, where each is responsible for each part of the program - we already have that. Tsserver.exe is responsible for passing data from QuoteManager.exe to MultiCharts.exe, where the latter takes care of the charting. However each process can use only 2 GB of Ram at the moment.

I have had this trouble with market orders and sometimes limit orders. They are being rejected from IB but remain pending on MC. This is not only on sim, but I have just tried to close a live position and same problem. I had entered position on IB and attempted to close the position from MC. ( at desk with IB platform open for complete control ) Attached is a rejected order that remained pending MC. I had to manually cancel MC order.
Order canceled fine.

* also the problem still exists also where IB accounts are automatically switched to ' ALL ' instead of a selected sub account when connected to MC. Trades are then placed to ALL accounts.

I would like to point out that support did ask to connect to my computer to resolve this ( 'ALL' accounts issue) and they did not ignore the issue. It was my lack of time that the issue has not been identified.
I did not have time for live connect with tssupport, but I will be very happy to help the staff to find what may be causing this issue. I will set aside time the beginning of next week and connect with support.

This is the actual trade log from IB and this is live. You can match it to the MC log I had just posted.
You will notice MC market buy was rejected( previous post ) so I had to close positions in IB. I then had to cancel pending MC market order.

Also note how and order is placed at IB, but because IB is connected to MC the order is placed to all accounts, then order is corrected and filled. You will see duplicate times with one order in this log.
Thats what happen with MC connected. When MC is disconnected IB is fine for account selection.

These posts are to help the MC community in a positive way and are no way a complaint , frustration, or anything negative. I am extremely happy with MC and look forward to see MC the best product around for trading

Here is another issue with memory (I am running 1 gig and I need to go to 3 gig or get a new machine it seems). I am trying to do a bmp picture (something I do all the time and it does work on this release) but this one is blank most likely because the machine's memory is heavily used right now. I attached the picture.

This is true though of course it is no reason not to write the tightest, leanest most efficient code possible. Some people do not want to upgrade their machines every year others (myself included) trade from a laptop so they can travel easily.

I agree with Nick. I think what Nick's comment about modular may have meant is "if the user does not use the scanner they uncheck that feature and it does not get loaded in memory upon start-up" or maybe even better, "if they are not using the scanner at the moment it does not get loaded into memory until needed". Not only that I think it would be a good idea to have a display of what modules MC has loaded in memory at the moment. This could lead to TSS getting suggestions on how they could modularize better. I am thinking in terms of users realizing that a module could be cleared from memory much sooner than MC is clearing it. Or maybe the user could somehow initiate the clearing of a module. I am sure each of these functions (the scanner, backtesting, etc) must use huge amounts of memory. Why waist even 1 second loading that memory if the user is never ever ever ever going to use it. You could take it to price too. Might TSS get more customers if you can lower the price for users who will "never ever ever ever" use those items and they do not buy them. Once they are in the door and see just how great your support is etc they may decide they can use these features after all and buy those modules. Lots of software uses this foot in the door marketing strategy. TSS may be able to charge more in total for all modules and the more users the more MC gets talked about and the higher the sales overall and maybe the lower the price as a result. Not only this, if it gets around that MC is a memory hog and the user has to upgrade their machine every 3 years (time consuming) it could lead to less sales. Not only this, during the time the user is trying to figure out that it is in fact a memory issue they spend a lot of time blaming MC. Maybe MC could be smart enough to know there is not enough room for X numbers of functions and an upgrade to memory or machine would be suggested thus saving the user time.

Anyway, back to the attached picture. I am going to try unloading a few apps to see if I can get the BMP picture I am trying for (that will confirm in my mind that it is a memory issue). I may submit these suggestion into the project management this weekend.

Okay, regarding the above "bmp picture blank issue" I unloaded as many apps as possible and that did not work. Next I decided to shut down MC and restart it and it worked. The picture I was trying to save is shown below. So maybe it is not Memory or maybe MC is using memory once loaded (I moved that chart to a different location and sized it properly for png display on my notebook and thus maybe this causes MC to use more memory). So when I shut down MC and restarted it I saved the workspace (with its 8 charts and single symbol) with the chart already moved to the new location.

It happened again, when the US unemployment claims was released a couple of minutes ago, some charts started to show some delay to each other. At the end I had almost 1 minute delay.

I went to check the Windows TaskManager and noticed that from 4Gb of ram, only 100 MB was available.

Also, as you can see in the picture, Multicharts alone was "drinking" almost 500Mb of memory.

With this computer (i5) I never had problems with quote delays.

Last year I bought a new computer because my old one couldn't deal any more with the stream of data that I was requesting. I remember from time to time having a 2 or even 3 minutes of delay.
Now the same thing is starting to happen?

Must I buy another 4Gb of ram? Will 8Gb solve the problem?

I don't remember having this problem with version 6.

Regards,
Fernando

Dear Fernando,

Please send all your workspaces and indicators that were opened when the news was released to support@multicharts.com so we can investigate the issue on our end. We assume that some of your indicators may use only one core for the calculation and therefore slow down the performance.

Postby bowlesj3 » 09 Jun 2011

Regarding the post "2 posts up", I tried to save that chart as bmp again. Once again it could not (in fact this time it could not even attempt it meaning it was worse this time around). So I closed MC down without closing any other apps and restarted MC and this time it worked (same solution as the last time). So it appears that MC is grabbing more and more resources or memory as the day goes on (maybe storing all that price data in memory) and therefore if there are problems one suspects may be memory or resource related a restart of MC may fix it. That is good to know.

To confirm this, about 15 minutes after restarting MC as indicated above, I had the same problem I had the other day (could not bring up a png picture of the market which I do fairly often and have never had a problem with before MC 7.0). To try and solve this, I restarted MC (as I did when having problems saving the bmp picture) and, as I suspected, after the restart of MC I could pull up the png picture.

So MC is starting out without using so much memory but as time goes on it appears to be demanding more. The problem is the user will not get a warning of this. It could be a fully functioning no bugs MC. So with each new official release there should be a warning about increases in memory requirement for those who do not want such surprises. If it was modular maybe users could be given a way to estimate in advance based upon how many features they choose to use. Even better would be if MC could check available memory and issue a warning before other apps start to have problems. I guess I am getting into feature requires now.

bowlesj3,

While we are on resource usage subject, I attempted to compare MC with TS 9.0 with same number of workspaces open and one can clearly see that MC is a memory hungry application, drawing up lot of resources.

MC needs to seriously address this issue.

****I am a very satisfied MC user and personally find it better than TS in many ways, just want to see it get better.

Hi Super,

I guess it is time to review this thread.
"Tips, tricks, programs, etc for MC resource Management"
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7466

On the topic of that thread, I seem to remember having an app many years ago that could give me popup warnings when resources were a problem such as memory or whatever (even fans not working and the machine overheating). If anyone knows of apps with alerts and recommendations for the latest operating systems that would be a good thing to post to that thread. In addition to that, when I created that thread I was thinking TSS may want to post to it at times when they bring out their new releases if appropriate. It would be a good thread to post warnings that machines running typically at X % memory usage may have a problem with the next release or maybe something as simple as advance notices of a change in minimum system requirements going on the web site. So in the spirit of the title of that thread it would be an advance tip from TSS warning users that they may want to upgrade their machines before upgrading MC.

John.

Will investigate this. Thanks for reporting.

I had the same issue with a Stop order yesterday. It was resubmitted 10 times.

Some good news. For some reasons MC 7.0 is loading much faster on the notebook now. It even seems to load and back fill all the charts just as fast as MC 6.0 (into 504 meg of RAM loading 1 work space with 7 charts with bollinger bands and RSI and less studies than I run on the desktop). It is almost as if it has some initial work to do after first install and once this is done it can do it much faster after that. So assuming that continues, the only issue is hogging memory on the desktop more and more as it runs during the day until other apps start to have problems and it can not save charts into bmp format files. I am wondering if I can get a history of its memory use during the day.

Is your order being rejected? If so, what is the reason stated in the logs? In this issue - https://www.multicharts.com/pm/viewissue ... _no=MC-406 the issue is that IB is rejecting the order for a reason unknown to us. We need the user to ask IB what's going on there. Maybe same is happening to you. Here is the last comment from that issue:

"In MC 6 and in MC7 Beta 4 orders are send as Sell-STP, not Stop Limit. Everything is OK there. If you see two prices - i.e. stop and limit price, that's normal. It doesn't affect anything. The main thing is the order type - SELL-STP. So the order type is correct, same as in MC6.
So the only issue is that you get an error - "stop trigger price is too low". We don't know why you get this. Please ask IB and let us know."

Russia Day commemorates the formal adoption, on June 12th 1991 of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation which declared Russia's "independence" from the USSR.

Since 1991, the holiday has changed its name twice. It was originally called Independence Day.

In 1994 renamed to the catchy 'Day of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Russian Federation'.

On February 1st 2002 it was officially renamed to Russia Day

In accordance with this view this holiday is generally celebrated simply as show of patriotism for Russia. It's celebrated similarly to Victory Day, with fireworks set off at 10 pm.

While it has been an official holiday since since 1991, 2003 was really the first year that it was celebrated in a major way, when it was promoted by Vladimir Putin.

Today MC 7.0 did something interesting. I started it late, it came up with the splash screen "raising the standard" and just sat there for at least 5 minutes. I decided to cancel it and try again but it was not in the task manager application section yet. I saw a process "TSserver" however. So I rebooted and tried again. It asked if I wanted to cancel the session on another machine (there was no other machine of course). I said yes and it came up this time at its normal speed and completed its backfill at normal speed.

Just thought I would pass this on.

Quotemanager can't export data up to 6 decimals.
If you collect data as 6J from CME (JPY/USD which has 6 decimals http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/fx/g10/japanese-yen_quotes_globex.html ), then you are not able to export those data in the correct format with all 6 decimals. Quotemanager limits its data up to 5 decimals and not more.
I've posted this issue in this PM post MC-417 http://www.multicharts.com/pm/viewissue.php?issue_no=MC-417

I hope it can be solved soon.

As I've wrote in the Bug tracker page (project Management) "comment and discussion" section regard this feature, it would be very useful if modifying ASCII mapping as confirmed in MC-402 http://www.multicharts.com/pm/viewissue.php?issue_no=MC-402 for MC 7 beta 5 release, you could add UTC time format in the Time Zone choice of the Quotemanager Data Import.
Today many datafeeds have changed their time zone base for the download data process to UTC time zone which never change during the year instead of GMT or Local time zone which change in different periods for the single regions of the world.
It would be very useful if this confirmed feature MC-402 would be added with UTC time zone.
Thanks

P.S.
(Later added)
it would be great if we could have a choice like this one from NT Datamanager Import data
Image

It's very very useful

Thanks again

Regarding the problems I had with the notebook above I found the exact way to know if your machine is short of memory for the programs you are running. When you run MC and other programs (in the windows task manager performance tab) the general rule is if the total Commit Charge exceeds the total physical Memory you need more ram. I got this info from the link below and I updated the MC tips tricks and traps thread.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index ... 118AAnZaRC.

MC takes me over. My database does not. Both together (which I normally use) creates some big slow downs.

hi ,
Is it possible from a custom future chart with feed from zenfire to send orders to Interactive Brokers ? and if so why that brokers profile doesn't let me add nothing to the symbol mapping?

Yes, you should be able to map a Custom Futures symbol just like any other symbol to trade through IB. What do you mean it won't let you add anything? Can you post a screenshot?

Jesh wrote:Here are some more of my observations.

What is the status of issue #2? I am having the same issue. I posted this in the DT forum also under the "Master Strategy Issues" thread. Is this a bug or am I just using the strategy feature incorrectly?

Dear horton,

Point number two would be a feature request to change the behaviour. We treat this situation differently from some other providers - our exits deal with the position, not particular entries.

Dear all,

yesterday I had the following issue :

I was scalping YM through the DOM window, in addition with a 1 minute chart.

I placed an order on the DOM but it did not show up neither in the DOM window nor on the chart.
So I did it again, same issue, and again.

In the end my three orders where executed, and my loss was then threefold what it should have been.

After that, I closed the DOM window and opened a new one, and then I saw the executed orders on the chart.

I don't know if somebody else got the same issue and if it is easy to reproduce (did some scalping since, in the same way, no pb so far), but this is highly dangerous.

Many thanks in advance for your attention on this issue. If I need to open a ticket in the bugtracking system, let me know.

Take care.

Dear pmat,

The only way to tell what happened is to examine the logs of your system - they will tell us which orders were generated, when, and what happened to them. Logs are erased everytime you restart MultiCharts. You need to come to our Live Chat right after the problem occurs, or at least before you restart MultiCharts. We can then tell you what happened. Screenshots also help, but logs are the main thing. If chat is closed you can keep MC open until the Chat opens, or back the logs up yourself.

then choose the MC version, then "Logs", followed by the specific folder.
