CQG will be available in MultiCharts 8.0 Release Candidate.
We are doing our best to make this version available for public this week.

So how do you make it work?

I went here http://www.ampfutures.com/NT_cqg.php and received an email with a user and password, plugged these into MC CQG connection.
I can add CQG symbols, so I guess the connection sort of works.
But after that when I tell it to connect either by using the symbol (right click on symbol in QM) or by MC main app, it just saying "Connecting"?

So what now?

Neil.

Their reg form for MultiCharts doesn't seem to have made it public yet (should be soon). You can register through this link here for now - http://www.ampclearing.com/multicharts.html.

Stan,
Have you tried this? http://www.ampclearing.com/thank_multicharts.html
It only gives a link to Multicharts 7.4 EXE. http://www.multicharts.com/downloads/mu ... ts.7.4.exe
Which, correct me if I'm wrong, does not support CQG.

To use CQG with MC

1. Download and install CQG Trader -ftp://ftp.cqg.com/CQG%20Trader/English/ ... pgrade.msi
Don't run it after install.

2. Register at Amp Global Clearing to get demo login/password - http://www.ampclearing.com/multicharts.html

3. Enter the password you get in QuoteManager for the data feed, and in the broker profile for trading.

Is there any reason why CQG connection is exclusive to AMP futures? I would like to use it with RJ Obrien (they support CQG)

thanks

Because we reached an exclusive agreement with them for a certain amount of time.

I'm a bit lost here.

Will this connection require CQG Trader API? Will any history backfill be available? (I'm not that familiar with CQGT API options, but those I've seen provide only real-time data with no history whatsoever.)

CQG Trader needs to be installed to give the extra communications components BUT do not run it.
There are a few issues -
1. Ensure MC is run as an administrator to add the CQG connection

2. the user and password did not work. AMP logged on and put in a different user/password

3. you should get a warning from your firewall after a minute or so. it's just CQG trying to get out.

4. Back history on the futures contracts downloaded very quickly

5. Im unable to place trades but the charts look good. the trades are not going through correctly yet.

You need CQGTrader installed. It doesn't have to be open, but MC logs in through that. CQG has provided historical backfill to MultiCharts in addition to real-time.

Correct. See Wiki pages
https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... ex.php/CQG - data feed
https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... er_Profile - broker
There are a few issues -
1. Ensure MC is run as an administrator to add the CQG connection
Everything launches fine without running as admin over here. General rule - if you are launching one app as admin, all others that work with it must be launched in a similar fashion. By default this connection does not require admin privileges.
2. the user and password did not work. AMP logged on and put in a different user/password
Make sure the same password is inputted into both QM and broker profile. Works fine, unless CQG sends incorrect passwords. Unable to reproduce this.
3. you should get a warning from your firewall after a minute or so. it's just CQG trying to get out.
Yes, that's fine. CQG trying to connect to the internet for data, just like any other data feed.
4. Back history on the futures contracts downloaded very quickly
Is this an 'issue'? :) I like the backfill speed
5. Im unable to place trades but the charts look good. the trades are not going through correctly yet.
This may have something to do with CQG backend permissions. They are looking into it.

It's Multicharts that is doing the complaining about not being run as an Administrator.
It brings up RED alert boxes. (Lots of them :) )
This is the same for MC Charting and QM. After CQG is configured, you no longer get alerts and it can be run normally.

Stan,
Both PC's are configured for CQG and running fine now, so no more complaining from MC.
From memory, MC displayed a message saying that to add a new broker, the application must be run as an Administrator.

Indeed it does, but only one box in my case, saying that I'd need to run MC as an administrator in order to register new data source, which I did. It didn't happen since.

I guess, it could have something to do with reinstalling MC.

Confirmed. The very first time you launch MC with a new data feed AND you are upgrading an existing installation, you need to run MC as admin in order to register the new data feed. This information will be added to alert other users.

Only one CQG API version works (build 329) for data and trading right now. You can use that until Monday.

CQG has confirmed the problem on their end. They promised a fully working version on their end to be delivered on Monday. No changes will be required from our end, so all you'll have to do is install their new working API/CQG Trader and you should be good to go.

Here is how to use CQG build 329:
1) Uninstall all API and CQG trader applications you currently have in Control panel->Uninstall a program (program name varies for different versions):
CQG trader
CQG auto upgrade service
CQG trader API
MultiCharts API (with CQG icon)
2) Download the file from this link:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27918922/CQG_V4.03.329.msi
3) Close MultiCharts and all of its processes.
4) Install the downloaded file.
5) Start MultiCharts and plot a chart for CQG instrument.
6) Allow CQG API to connect to the Internet.

Hello Neil,

Please follow this guide for CQG Trder/API update procedure:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10494
You need to uninstall all old CQG Trder/API versions prior to installing the latest one.

Henry,
In your "How to", both of the dropbox links are the same.
Should one of them be CQG trader and the other be the CQG API?

Previous installs of CQG Trader were in the 21MB region.
The file you have duplicate links to are only 9.9MB.

Re: CQG Connection

Postby NW27 » 14 Jun 2012

Hi All,

I now have CQG working. Here are the few extra things I noted.

1. On prior CQG installs. It actually installed "CQG Trader", as in the path "C:\Program Files\CQG" actual had the CQG Trader program and this could be separately run up. NOW hoever, the install Henry refers to in his links, actually installs only two files in this area. The main files are the CQG API for Multicharts. These are stored in the "C:\Program Files\Multicharts\Multicharts API" folder.

2. I could be wrong but there seems to be an association of the User & Password with the Multicharts CQG connection. Ensure you have a new demo account user & password. (Henry's Step 2)

3. Henry's Step 4. I find it best to restart MC and QM after putting in the CQG user and password.

4. Henry's Step 6. I noticed that it can take some minutes for the CQG API to finally get the Firewall application to prompt the user to allow it through.

5. Even after all of the above, it still wouldn't work?? What was needed was to run Multicharts as an Administrator ie right click on Multicharts and select "Run as Administrator" This only needed to be done once. After that it all worked fine. Both Charting and Trading.
Even though subsequent running of MC did not need to be run as Administrator, examination of the Security properties on the "C:\Program Files\Multicharts\Multicharts API" shows that it is Read Only for Users. There are 3 Log files and one INI file in this folder that appear to require Write access. So if you still have issues, it is probably best to change the Security on this folder to allow Users to have Full access.

Neil.

Yes like Genesisft inti Tradenavigator platfom it backfeel more than 5 years!!
I am saying all datafeed of quality, they have all database of tick data, or because if they don't have data they have directly buy the data from exchange, afther is a their choose give at retail how many years download.

I like Genesisft because if you want download years od tick data, you can do it by a different server, while for backfeel they usa another one for 6 month of data.

Now the standard is to give many years of tick data, the cost to take the data is going always low.

My best.

Re: CQG Connection

Postby bomberone1 » 15 Jun 2012

The accurancy and the synchronization of your data is not based on Multicharts technology, but in the accurancy of your datafeed and DTN for now seems very good, so if you trust in DTN, you can trust in your synchroniztaion between bid and ask and in the accurancy of your bid- ask volume but even for historical data because of DTN IQ Feed permits you to retrive historical data for LAST, BID or ASK back to 30 days back and Multicharts is able to collect that historical BID, ASK and LAST in different fileds which can be compared each other in an historical way and not only in real time.
SO same should be for CQG and foa all datafeed.
SO I think that on Multicharts website you should describe this to compare the different datafeed.
My best.

NANEX NANEX NANEX!!!!

Nanex currently offers historical market data from January 2004 to the present day. The data is in the NxCore tape file format. There are three major benefits for doing it this way.
It's in the exact same format as the data during real time.
All the data is synchronized, unlike other data services that provide data by symbol and then one has to synch all symbols and guess which quote came before the trade.
It's compressed over 90%, saving hard drive space and time. Nanex has the ability to create tapes with only information that is necessary. Tapes can be trades only from one exchange or all exchanges that they offer.

Do you know how expensive Nanex is? (I don't). You'll have to contact them to get a quote, but from what I read on Quantitative Finance SE (source) it's around 600 dollar per month, excluding exchange fees.

If you can afford that (and have the infrastructure in place to handle billions of quotes per day, even if MultiCharts could handle that, and know how to deal with all this data so that you can still focus on trading), perhaps your budget is also sufficient to contact MultiCharts for custom programming requests. Which might be an idea if they don't implement your request. (Just suggesting, no harsh comment intended)

I can't verify this (perhaps Neil can?), but according to the Data feeds page:
Tick-by-tick 6 months back, minute bars 10 years back, daily bars made out of minutes.

HI, it could be very expensive now, but in the next 3 years all datafeed will do that at low cost, so also all retail could have a very good services.
My point of view is from a Very Big Firm Trading, not retail trader.
Now I and other Big Trader.. are building at home our pit trading desk, and we try to cut the edge that existis from these two part.
There is no hope to work in HFT by retail......
Anyway, i tell my personal opinion, a retail algo trader could never go to under 5 minutes to achieve very good results. My purpose is to get very good results at 1 minute time frame of trading system.
From the other side I think that retail indicators that work on tick data to get HFT in the market are
very good, and without a good datafeed there no way to built good indicator that work into HFT detection.
My best

can any one confirm - how far back the history goes back with CQG/MC combination?

tick data?
minute data?

Thanks
Tick data goes back 6 months, minute data 10 years. It's on this page - https://www.multicharts.com/market-data-feeds/

Hello solbikim,

Restart your PC and try to connect once again. If you are unable to do that-please come to our live chat 6.30 am-4 pm EST so that I can collect the logs for analysis.

NW27, thanks for your helpful comments in this thread -- it helped me establish the connection to CQG when the Trade Bar remained in yellow mode (needed to restart MC). Thanks :)

Do other CQG (demo) users also have no backfill for EUREX futures from yesterday June 19th 16:15 till the close at 22:00 for Eurex futures (exchange time)?

ZenFire shows data for this time period (so no exchange problem) and the backfill on other days is till the close of 22:00 (so no symbol or session problems).

Too small. At least 3 years we need.

Hello JoshM,

We confirm that there was backfill issue yesterday. It is already fixed on the data servers.
Please close all workspaces with the problem instruments, “Clear cache” for them in Quote manager, then create a new chart for the instruments.
If the data is not backfilled automatically-reload the chart using Ctrl+R.

Bomberone1 - in my subjective opinion, only a small percentage of traders needs that much tick data - the heavy backtesters. The majority of traders won't even have use for 6 months. But most importantly, we don't control the how much history a data feed provides. You should petition CQG to increase it if you want that changed. I doubt they read this forum.

Live account doesn't seem to work. Demo works downloading data. Amp trading can't seem to give me a straight answer. Is MC 8.0 release capable of trading CQG-Ampfutures live? Thank you.

Stan, I also want to use it with RJ Obrien. When does your exclusivity with AMP end?

Thanks.

Exclusive agreements defeat the concept of an "open" platform if that is what MC is aiming for.

Mid 2013 if it's not extended. I would recommend just using AMP for your CQG trading needs for now.

AMP is not an option for most who work with clients. They are super low end with no institutional clientele. Ironically - most clients who use a super discount brokerage like AMP would not want to pay for a CQG connection.
This was a case of MC shooting itself in the foot.

Totally agree with waveslider. When I first read that MC will have CQG, I thought: yes that's the way to go and CQG connection will definitely raise the value of MC. But when I read that CQG is exclusively with AMP, I thought, what an joke! Do your due diligence, then you will realize they are "super low end". AMP is an absoulutely no go! IMHO.

Stan,

So if it's not extended, does this mean that MC will not work with AMP any longer?
I was just looking at opening an account with them.

Stan refers to the exclusiv agreement. So in conclusion it would mean, if the agreement will not be extended, all brokers with CQG will be usable with MC.

That is why you should also be interest in a free CQG connection and vote for it. The more choice you have, the better :)

Obviously you have extended the exclusive agreement with AMP for CQG. Any chance that CQG will be opened for other brokers in the near future?

Yes, we are working on that. Starting in July, it should be open.
