How to plot a weekly moving average on a daily chart?

Postby fugu_master » 25 Jun 2012

Hi - I can get the weekly moving average to plot on the daily sub chart by selecting the weekly data source in Properties, but the scaling of the weekly moving average does NOT match the daily instrument.

How do I force the weekly plot to follow the same scaling as the daily chart?

Format Study > Scaling > Same as Instrument
Thx that would be logical, but I did that originally and it does not work.
The only way I can get it to correctly scale is to plot the weekly bars ON the daily chart, then plot the weekly moving average.

But then if you hide the weekly bar plots, the moving average again gets incorrectly scaled.

(In TS I just select "right hand axis" for scaling indicator plots.)

I do know you can click the right hand axis and "select" the underlying instrument or select the indicator... but for some reason you cannot enforce both to be on the same scale.

Add one more data series to the chart. It's free.

I've been using Insert > Instrument and selecting which subchart to place it.
But this has no effect on scaling.

Is there something I'm missing??

Set to scale as instrument but not actually scaling to daily.

Yes I've tried that too - and scaling does work, but I don't want to see the weekly bars on my daily chart.

If you then HIDE the weekly plot, the scaling gets thrown out again.

don't hide it, set the plots to invisible.

AHA - thanks TJ, that solved the problem. It now scales properly!
