Tips for using the quote manager for IB and eSignal

Postby canaussieuck » 03 May 2012

Guys, I'm really struggling to use this search engine. I can copy the esignal symbol or description direct and it still cannot find it.

Same goes for IB, what the heck?

These are the 2 most popular data providers.

What version you are using?

What symbols are you searching?

Hi TJ,

MultiCharts Version 7.4 (Build 4953)

I was searching for the S&P mid-cap 400 e-mini, as well as the 6E, Euro currency futures. It doesn't matter what it is, i have trouble with everything that i have not already found once.

What roots did you use for S&P mid-cap 400 e-mini, and the 6E, Euro currency futures?

Perhaps this wiki article might be useful: Merging Data Sources into a Single Chart. There's also some info on eSignal, IB and the IB Broker profile which might be handy to 'walk-through' to check your settings.

You need to input the symbol root into the lookup field.
For Interactive Brokers:
E-mini S&P Midcap 400 Futures = EMD
Euro currency futures = EUR

For eSignal:
E-mini S&P Midcap 400 Futures = MC
Euro currency futures = 6E

You can look for the proper root in QuoteManager->Tools->Symbol dictionary.
IB symbol roots are also available in TWS if you right click on the instrument and go to Contract Description.
