Portfolio backtesting....

Postby greenroomhoo » 12 Mar 2013

I have code for backtesting on equities:

if condition1 then buy 10,000/close shares next bar at market....

However, i now want to evaluate in the context of portfolio manager and its broader money management settings. How do change my code in the the individual strategy to follow the portfolio backtester money management setting?

Hello greenroomhoo,

What exact portfolio backtester money management settings you want to follow?
All Portfolio_* reserved words are listed in the Wiki: Portfolio Strategy Performance, Portfolio Strategy Position, Portfolio Strategy Properties.

thanks i figured it out. i just changed my code to "buy next bar at market" then set the settings manually in the backtester.

While i have your attention: no matter what i try i cannot get, up on loading a list of equities into the backtester to not DEFAULT to esignal data feed (which i dont use...but clearly someone at multicharts does).

I use IQFeed. I have deleted every other data feed in quote manager. I open portfolio backtester. I will add a dummy equity in the empty list and make sure it is on IQ Feed (colored blue and i see "Active Data Source IQFeed" in lower right.

I then upload a .csv file with 100 equities....every single one of them imports as RED with esignal data source. I have to manually change each one (time consuming).

1) open portfolio backtester
2) add any symbol from IQFeed (in the bottom right corner see Active DataSource change from eSignal to IQFeed)
3) import a .csv file with your symbols
Result: all symbols are added with IQFeed data provider.

Does it work differently in your case?

for kicks - i started a new portfolio....loaded in SPY as one instrument..It came in perfect. Entered another....the platform hung for a good minute or so then finally popped up the dialogue box referencing esignal.

I took a screenshot of it attached
