Portfolio Backtester results in latest update

Postby greenroomhoo » 14 Mar 2013

Downloaded latest version today from the most recent one before it.

In the last version of MC (before update), the results from the portfolio backtester matched the results from a loaded chart (I spot test every run).

Upgraded, recompiled all strats and opened the Portfolio Backtester. Results on the exact same symbols, timeframe, and strategies are drastically different in the Backtester. The results for the same symbols, timeframe and strategies in the charts have not changed. See screenshot. Report on the left is from the portfolio backtester...report on the right is from a chart. again - exact same everything, all strats compiled, etc.

I know because i spent two hours looking for any differences.

I should add that i noticed an issue on my other computer when i loaded the latest version of MC last week. I quickly ran a portfolio, saw a very strange (lower) result than i expected. I dismissed it then....but now that it has happend on two machines.....

Hello greenroomhoo,

Our developers have fixed the optimization and backtesting issues in MC 8.5 Release. Please download the zip file corresponding to your version of MultiCharts and unzip it:
32 bit: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27918922/MC11161_x32.zip
64 bit: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/27918922/MC11161_x64.zip

Please keep in mind that the fix can be applied only to the latest builds:
64 bit 8.5.6778
32 bit 8.5.6777

You need to replace the original files in MultiCharts installation directory while MC and all of its processes are finished:
make a right click on the MC shortcut –> Properties –> "Shortcut" tab –> select "open file location".
Paste the files from the zip into the folder that will appear on your screen. Confirm file replacement.

Please let me know if the problem still persists with this fix.
We are going to have a new build of MultiCharts with the latest stability and optimization fixes this week.

We are going to add the ability to auto-trade a portfolio of stocks in MultiCharts 9.0
Portfolio trading will have more functionality compared to just scanner trading.
