Is Multichart Volume analysis reliable ?

Postby brakkar » 07 Feb 2014

Hi,
i'm considering using multichart.
I mostly trade futures with Volume analysis (footprint): volume profile, delta...

Honestly, for those that use that daily, how does Multichart handle this feature ?
Are the data computed accurate ? Is it stable ? Do you like it ?
Would you use it professionally ?

First, what data feed do you use?
For volume profile/footprint/delta the most reliable is IQFeed.

As far as I know, Rithmic, being also an unfiltered data feed, is also a very reliable feed but I never tested it.

Using IQFeed and having SC side by side with MC, all data is identical.

Which platform are you coming from?
MD? IRT? SC?

Rithmic and IQfeed work great. CQG works well too, but is very filtered.

The trick with volume is to use always use the same data feed. From broker to broker or data feed to data feed, the volume profile is completely different. Multicharts has no effect on this.

Good luck.. MC is a great platform and these guys upgrade, update, and fix bugs faster than anyone. I've used and still use most competing platforms. This is #1 in its caliber.

Thanks for your answers.
I plan to use MC with AMP future broker.
As feed they propose CQG, or Rithmic. Which one do you suggest for scalping using mostly Volume footprint charts ?

Also note that I will need historical data.
By the way, can MC use a feed for real time data, and another for historical ?

You can use as many data feeds as you want.

If you're trading with AMP, make sure you get the Rithmic feed. CQG is slower, filtered, and the API is .. funny. Rithmic is probably the fastest and cleanest data that you can get as a retail trader.

Hello brakkar,

A real-time data source and a historical data source can be merged into a single chart.
Real-time data will be plotted only from the moment you have created a chart.
That it is not possible to set a certain rollover point at which historical data will stop and realtime data will start.
You can find more information here Merging data sources into a single chart.

Missing data between the last data point of historical symbol and current moment using realtime data will not be backfilled.
