Continuous contracts in IB yet?  [SOLVED]

Postby gpw797 » 22 Dec 2017

I understand that you can set up custom futures but I though continuous contract functionality was to work in version 11?

I can set up IB continuous contracts and see charts but when I try to chart trade I get error that symbol mapping is incorrect see attached error and symbol mapping pics. FYI trading the "normal" contracts works fine.

Hello, gpw797,

Trading on continuous contracts is not supported on IB end. You will need to configure the Symbol Mapping to place trades from a continuous contract chart. Please select the continuous contract for chart symbol and the current contract for the broker symbol. Here is how to do that:
http://www.multicharts.com/trading-software/index.php/Symbol_Mapping

You will need to manually remap the continuous contract to the front month contract when futures rollover.
MultiCharts will not cancel and replace the orders with the new contract month.
You need to do that manually or contact your broker for assistance.

IB supports the continuous contract now.. it is symbols @CL, @ES, @RTY for example. I can trade all of them in TWS but get errors in MC.

Interactive brokers has a continuous for several futures contracts.

Speaking specifically about ES contract, is this the @ES in Multicharts ?

IB continuous instrument should be mapped to the current front month contract manually to place orders:

That is correct. You need to run TWS version 966 or a newer one to access IB's continuous futures. Make sure you add the symbol using Symbol Lookup.

You can add the symbol and see charts but you can't trade the continuous symbol in MC (unless this has changed just recently.. not at my trading desk).

Trading the continuous symbol is not supported by IB. As specified above - IB continuous instrument should be mapped to the current front month contract manually to place orders:

This is not correct, you can chart continuous and trade that chart which converts to the current contract with IB IWS
