Mean Absolute Difference Bands, Dollar Move

Postby dataheck » 13 Mar 2020

In line with my volatility bands and standard dollar move indicators, this is the same but based on different math. This uses the mean absolute difference instead of a standard deviation approach. I think you'll find it usually bounds price action, at least on a daily series, except where it doesn't. I use volatility bands at the same time with a standard deviation of 4 and that usually bounds the more extreme moves as well. They seem to be good partners for a sort of statistical risk management approach.

Code is originally from the built-in Bollinger bands.

Mean dollar move indicator included; will basically tell you what a normal day's swing should be in dollars. Anything less is normal.

One flaw with it is that for a daily series like I'm showing here the line connecting the bands gradually reaches its value at the close, when really you should only be looking at that close value. It would be better if it kinda "stair-stepped".
