Bitcoin CME Quote Manager Setup?

Postby EuroNoob » 18 May 2020

Hi everyone,

Happy days now that Bitcoin futures are trading on the CME.

I'm using IQFeed for data and trading via IB... but first, testing some simple systems.

I've imported the BTC contracts into Quote Manager using Add Symbol / From Data Source (symbol is @BTC#).

Unsurprisingly, all the imported Symbol information is wrong, and needs to be input manually.

This is where I hit a problem.

The contract specs are here: https://www.cmegroup.com/trading/equity ... tures.html

Each futures contract is x5 bitcoin. The price move is $5. So each 'tick' of $5 = $5 x 5 = $25 value per tick; the minimum price move.

BUT... it seems impossible to set up in the Symbol Settings; the "Price Scale" dropdown in "Edit Symbol" and the "Symbol Dictionary" doesn't have '5' as an option.

After much trial and error the following settings seem to work,

Price Scale: 1/2 (s/b 1)
Min. Movement: 10 (s/b 5)
Big Point Value: 5 (s/b 25)

but these settings are not strictly correct, and I'm worried that although a series of trades in a backtest now show the correct profits and losses, something will probably break down the line, because it's not what it should be.

Any ideas please?

Cheers, EN

Price Scale: As Is
Min Movement: 5
Big Point Value: 5

works for me

As a note, Big Point Value is not the dollar value of the minimum price move but the dollar value of one point (1 dollar in chart currency in this case) even if that is below the minimum price move.

Thank you very much Tetsuya, for the explanation and sharing your settings! I'll try that now. I thought 'as is' might be the answer, but couldn't make it work. Super, thanks again.

Hello EuroNoob,

You can also try to use the following settings:

Price Scale: As is
Min. Movement: 5
Big Point Value: 5
