What will happen if the exchange do not support market order?

Postby Sallymeow » 02 Jul 2020

I use script like buy next bar market or buy next bar at high stop. What will happen if the exchange do not support market order and stop order? The Hong Kong Future Exchange only support limit order. What will actually happen? What kind of settings I have to do?

Hello Sallymeow,

This depends on the broker that you use for trading.
In MultiCharts, when you send a market or a Stop order to the broker, the broker decides on how to manage this order. The broker can either convert the order to Limit or reject it (in this case you will see the rejected order in Order and Position Tracker).

I found that my order can be sent and filled. I think my broker IB convert it to limit order. However, the slippage is very large. I chose "convert unfilled limit order to market order after 2 second". The slippage can be 10 more ticks or even 20 more ticks for the instrument MHI.

Is it possible to reduce the slippage by some means?
