Timezone settings in Portfolio Trader

Postby Gary_MC » 04 Jan 2022

Hi,

I've put together a portfolio with a mix of instruments that are all seasonal trades and when I tested it as one portfolio I found that I can only test if TimeZone is set to "local" or else I get an error message, which I've found information on in the Wiki about instruments from different time zones not being able to be mixed. (Link to Wiki with the error I'm getting: https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... =Time_Zone)

Obviously when I change the portfolio to local then I get different results from when I back test each of the trades individually. However the instruments aren't particularly from different time zones they just have different default session times. So is this also an issue?

Theses are the instruments, the session times and the provider

AD (Australian Dollar) * 1700 - 1600 * CME
MP1 (Mexican Peso) * 1700 - 1600 * CME
M2K (Russell Micro) * 1700 - 1600 * CME
MES (S&P500 Micro) * 1700 - 1600 * CME
YG (Gold Mini) * 2000 - 1800 * ICEUS
QM (Crude Oil Mini) * 1800 - 1700 * NYMEX
QN (Nat Gas Mini) * 1800 - 1700 * NYMEX

Any info on this would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hello Gary_MC,

It is not possible to mix symbols with different time zones on a chart or in a portfolio, otherwise the starting point of the data series will not match.
For the correct work Local time zone must be selected for all the instruments.
the instruments aren't particularly from different time zones
I can see that you have instruments with CME (UTC-6) and NYMEX (UTC-5) exchanges, that is why it is not possible to add them into portfolio with Exchange time zone.
when I change the portfolio to local then I get different results
Most likely your script generates orders at a specified time. You will need to modify the order generation conditions in this case.
