BARCHART AS A DATAFEED. YOUR FEEDBACK NEEDED.

Postby Marina Pashkova » 16 Oct 2008

Dear MultiCharts users,

We are considering adding Barchart as a datafeed and want to find out how many of our users would like to work with them in MultiCharts. Please leave your votes only if this issue is really important for you.

Your feedback is very much appreciated!

Here is the data provider overview and notes on data availability.

With over 20 years experience in developing and supplying data feeds, Barchart offers some of the fastest and most extensible data feeds on then web at a cost effective price. Our fast and reliable data feeds are being used to power the high-end professional business applications of The Chicago Board of Trade, The Kansas City Board of Trade, and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange along with hundreds other investing and trading websites. In our Broadcast data feed you can find real-time data, delayed data, end of day snapshots, and bid/ask prices. Tick data goes back 30 days while all minute bar data (1,5,10, etc.) goes back 1 year. Daily Open, High, Low, and Close date for futures and indexes goes back to inception while daily Open, High, Low, and Close data for stocks goes back to 1988. Also, with a Barchart data feed comes the help of our knowledgeable and dedicated technical support staff, so your data feed will be up and running in as little time as possible.

Reliability and data quality:

2) Barchart, has been a long time data vendor supplying data and the most popular website for delayed/free futures charts. Barchart owns Commodity Research Bureau (CRB) which has been well trusted and respected for high quality data since 1934. We feed several exchanges with market data for their websites (cbot, kcbt, mgex, nasdaq (sector data)) and trading floor wall boards (kcbt, mgex, cboe) while also having many institutional customers. Barchart does not track outages, but they happen maybe once a year for a small amount of time and are the fault of the telecommunication companies. Barchart has redundant telecom providers along with multiple power sources to minimize outages. For open outcry bad ticks we do correct the historical data with our advanced error checking.

Depends on whether volume bars can be created with their data. Seems I remember some issue with them. Having a solid backup to esignal would be a great move if comparable data( all resolutions) of similar accurracy and speed is available.

Here is the response from barchart.com

Mr. War,
Unfortunately, we do not transmit the volume with the tick data.
Richard

So this is not an option for those that require volume bars.
