Suggestion: Button for Opt Inputs from Chart

Postby MC_Prog » 19 Aug 2009

Hi.

I would like to suggest an addition to the Optimizable Inputs dialog

Image

The addition would consist of two buttons:

Set Start Values from Chart (Start from Chart)
Set End Values from Chart (End from Chart)

These buttons would cause the configured input values for the signal on the chart to be loaded into either the opt start values, or the opt end values.
(Clicking both buttons would accomplish both.)

This would make it very easy and quick to then finish setting up the opt across just the values of interest at the moment.

In this suggestion, the signal-on-chart values serve as the singular reference for assisted opt setup.

I'll save for another suggestion an even more powerful approach ...

Dear MC_Prog,

Probably we will consider these features.

I note that this situation persists in MC 6.0 Beta 2.

This is one of several key items pertaining to real-world usage of the MC backtesting capabilities that needs/deserves completion/enhancement prior to (IMO) turning all development attention elsewhere (e.g. manual trading, etc.).

Manual trading is more important in real word than your request. Attention should be turned to implementing basic manual trading feature, as this is the low hanging fruit.

The ability to pull current chart settings as initial values in optimization is a common capability of trading platforms, and while this isn't a huge deal, it is clearly an oversight and something that should likely be easily remedied in the normal course of ongoing improvements. It is not necessary to weigh the pros/cons of individual suggestions for bug fixes and minor improvements vs. major new feature sets - software platforms generally should and do include some work on each in new releases. Further, manual trading is already an announced priority - it is not necessary to discuss other proposed ideas in terms of manual trading or its relevance to each user (who naturally would have different priorities) because manual trading is already being done.
