Crash Reports - eSignal login/passwords in plain text

Postby rjelles » 29 Jun 2010

I am concernced that my eSignal login and password are being included in the MC 6 Beta3 crash reports for uploading. Can these be removed from the report, as there should be no reason for this information to go to support. I've included an extract below, with my info xxxx'd out:

x0000AE30](27.06.2010 - 23:43:36.332) InternetAddress : CM*.esignal.Com
[0x0000AE30](27.06.2010 - 23:43:36.332) InternetUserName : xxxxx
[0x0000AE30](27.06.2010 - 23:43:36.333) InternetPassword : xxxxxx
[0x0000AE30](27.06.2010 - 23:43:36.339)<= ts::CSingleton<class eSignal::CSupplier>::CSingleton Object = 0x08AFDA00 Time = 7.779438
[0x0000AE30](27.06.2010 - 23:43:36.339)Advise realtime listener Id=1

thanks,

Jeff

Dear Jeff,

This behavior will be changed in the official release version of MultiCharts 6.0. The login and password information will not be included in crash reports.

You can open the file and delete this information by yourself for the moment,

stale eSignal login information

Postby rjelles » 04 Jul 2010

Dave,

Thanks for the quick reply. There is still a problem with MC retaining the old eSignal username/password information - QuoteManager and other trading apps will use the new eSignal login information ok, but when MC 6 Beta 3 starts then eSignal complains about invalid user/password being used. Is there a way to reset this?

thanks,

Jeff

Dave,

what size (in MB) is the average crash report. I can remember that it once was around 50 MB on my system.

regards

Tobias

Which anti-virus software do you use?

eSignal have a couple of issues with ESET software. They have a complete report about this on their website with all the necessary changes that we need to do in the anti-virus software.

I had the same problem with the user and password.
We just need to create a couple of new exceptions within the anti-virus software.

Regards,
Fernando

Dear Jeff,

If you have OS Windows Vista or W7, please open the file "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\winros.ini"
In this file you should find the following lines:
InternetUserName=
InternetPassword=

Please check if UserName and Password match with your eSignal UserName and Password. If not, please change it.

If UserName and Password match with your eSignal UserName and Password or you cannot find this file, please come to our Live Chat so we can connect to your PC remotely and analyze the problem.

Dear Tobias,

The size of the crash report may vary from 100 Kb to 60 Mb and even more. The average size is about 2 Mb.

Thanks Dave.

Would it make sense to limit the size because 60 MB are hard to send.

E.g. generate a short report and store more information on the users system about the crash, which can be obtained at a later stage.

regards

Tobias

Dear Tobias,

The majority of crash reports do not exceed 2 MB. 50 or 60 Mb is a very rare occasion. In case if you have such crash report you can chose "Do not send" and contact our tech support for further investigation.
