portfolio backtesting am i asking too much?

Postby greenroomhoo » 05 Nov 2011

new to the platform and am having all sorts of portfolio backtesting issues with memory. I have a quad processor 16 gb of ram.

Trying to backtest 100 - 300 bars back (daily) on approximately 300 symbols. Can backtest a couple of times then get memory errors/warnings - no charts open. Eventually the app crashes and i reboot to get another couple of backtests in....rinse repeat etc. Optimization does not even get off the ground.

Seems like either i have an issue OR i am just asking too much of the platform. Not sure which it is....Amy i asking too much or should this work?

thanks

It's a 32 bit platform -
64 bit comes lates.
There is an workaround to increase the 32 bit RAM problem, here in this forum.

Check your TaskManager for memory usage.
If it is over 75%, you are into caution territory.
If it is over 85%, it might crash on you unexpectedly.

MultiCharts, being a 32 bit program, can only use ~2GB of your memory.

You need to see how many percentage of the 2 GB you are using.

The 64 bit version of MultiCharts will be coming out soon (supposedly by the end of the year),
it will solve all memory limitation related problems.

that would be great (plus customizeable keyboard shortcuts and renkos with wicks).
