about Default Account in IB setting

Postby stonebrook2011 » 01 Jan 2012

I just bought MC last week and this is my first post here. :)

I have several questions.

1. For each workspace, under "strategy properties", there is a "Default Account" under Interactive Brokers settings. Is this the place where I can input my IB account number so that the auto-trading orders generated by this workspace will go to the desired IB account? I have multiple IB accounts, say, I want to auto-trades generated by Workspace A go to IB account AAA, and auto-trades generated by Workspace B go to IB account BBB. I guess I may also need to open multiple TWS and/or modify the API port numbers in both TWS and MC.

2. What is the "Clearing Account" next to "Default Account"? What can it do?

I will test this when market opens on Tuesday. But meanwhile, any inputs from experts may help me solve this quickly.

Thanks a lot

You can open up to 3 TWS per computer.

Each account maybe connected to ONE TWS only.

There is a video on how to connect MultiCharts to IB's TWS
https://www.multicharts.com/multicharts/help/videos/

You do not need to enter your IB account number into MultiCharts.

Your strategy is matched to the TWS account through port number.

Hi.

But how can we connect 2 IB accounts to MC?

I'd like to have my paper trading and real account connected to MC and then choose which one to trade with, but every time I have both TWS's opened MC only recognize one account, the first one opened.

You will need to set a different port number on the 2nd TWS.

Go to TWS configure > API > Settings > Socket Port

Change the port number from 7496 (default) to a different number. eg. 7497, or any number that is not used.

Then go to your Strategy Properties of your study and enter the same number.
