Description

I've been using TradeStation platform for several years, for it's professional, convenient and user-friendly. From my FOREX experience, trader has to monitor many indicators simultaneously, in order to have stable and steady positive results. Unfortunately, 32bit TradeStation allows to have open workspaces taking no more than 3.8Gb ROM in total, even though my PC has 64Gb ROM.
I was lucky to meet and purchase 64bit MultiCharts last year, because:
1) it is positioned, looks like and operates similar to TradeStation
2) TS EasyLanguage scripts generate exactly same signals in MC as in TS
3) it allows to open, maintain and monitor many workspaces with up to 30 windows each with dozens of various indicators applied to charts, - but...
FOREX is working 24 hours 5 days a week. Trader's strategy can generate the right signal at any moment, and one must be made aware to open/close a position at the right point of time. But...
No-one can be looking at the screen 24 hours a day. It means that a trader must have the opportuninty to be informed of the event at the rigt time at any place.
To assist its users, TS does have such a feature called "Email Notification". It generates and sends an email message notifying that a signal has occurred, but - attention! - ONCE PER SIGNAL! It is crucial if you expect to learn about the signal AT THE RIGHT TIME!
As opposed to TS, MultiCharts has just a substitute feature called "Email Alert", which generates multiple emails every single minute, no matter when the signal occurred (I am using the term "signal" as equivalent to arrow appearance on chart).
Why this happens? - See my guess below.

Steps to reproduce this issue

It can be easily reproduced by applying any indicator to chart and turning "Email Alert" on - and then just count emails. It is not the issue. Most important is to understand why this happens and how to resolve it. To my mind there might be following reasons:
REASON 1. MC developers "from the bottom of their heart" believe that this feature is of utmost value for traders.
REASON 2. The error (if this is actually error and not a conscious solution) is that alerts are based on some invisible and indeterminate "conditions". These "conditions" might happen every moment, and that's why "alerts" are generated so frequent.
As to Reason 1, I must assure the MC developers, that the feature "Email Alert" is absolutely nonsensical and useless for an active trader.
To resolve Reason 1, the alerts should be based not on the mythical "conditions" but on the obvious, demonstrable appearance of a signal arrow. Then the number of emails will be equal to number of signals.
But most practical would be to develop a NEW FEATURE I would call "SIGNAL EMAIL NOTIFICATION" which must be GENERATED BY APPEARANCE OF A SIGNAL ARROW ONLY. It will also be useful to accompany it with a pop-up notification window.
In summary of the above, I'd like to say that if such a new feature is added to MultiCharts, it would be UNBEATABLE versus TradeStation (at least, for as long as TS doesn't have a 64bit version).
If there is no such feature, 64bit MultiCharts will remain for me a "chart drawing plaything", which I paid for over $1000.

In fact I am using MultiCharts64 Version 9.0 Release (Build 10360), but there are no option to attach the issue to it. That's why I had to attach it to MultiCharts 8.0.
Please consider my issue relating to MultiCharts64 Version 9.0 Release (Build 10360).

Alerts are generated when the Alert reserved word is triggered in your code: http://www.multicharts.com/trading-software/index.php/Alert Once that is done you need to enable alerts for the signal: Signal: http://www.multicharts.com/trading-software/index.php/Strategy_Alerts
