Description

I would like to request MultiCharts add a one step "backup" and "restore" functionality to MultiCharts. The idea is I want MC to create some sort of 'container' image (zip, whatever) that contains my workspaces, my indicators, my quote manager tick data, custom contracts --- basically every single thing that I would need if my computer blew up and I wanted to restore MultiCharts back to exactly the way it was.
Then build this into the GUI and make it a simple one button affair.

Steps to reproduce this issue

It is important to evaluate what MC shall do and what it shall not do. I solve this issue by having all trading applications running in virtual machines where you can take a snapshot of the machine any time you want

Besides MC 7 beta 2, I use a charting software that holds everything (workspace, studies, portfolio, etc.) in only one folder (called 'data'). When I recently changed my machine, I made a fresh install of the software. To recover everything, I just had to drag and drop the 'data' folder. It worked perfectly. I do not know if MC can do that but IMO it is a perfect example of efficiency and simplicity.

Yes but only a backup from MC allow a scheduled and automated backup which permit to backup in quote Manager:
Data and/or Symbol Dictionary and/or Custom Futures and/or Session Templates and/or Holidays and/or Expiration rules etc.
I already backup QM database and workspaces and make a manual export of Indicator and Signal in PL Editor.
But
If I want to copy them in another computer, concerning Quote Manager, I
can only overwrite database, not possible to import only Session
templates or CustomFutures.
And this, only a good Backup / Restore in MC allow it, not Acronis or any other software.

and the possibility to select signal and/or indicator and/or function modified since a specified date  or today or last week or begin of month or begin of year etc.
Or can select a specific selection of indicator/signal/function not only one by one or all of them

We don't need a complicated back-up scheme.  I agree with
what Fabrice wrote above - just put everything under the MultiCharts folder.
Then I can put MultiCharts on a drive by itself and everything is right there.
I don't have to go hunting around all over the C: drive to find a piece here and
a piece there.

What is the purpose spreading the program, data and
studies over multiple locations?  To satisfy Microsoft best practices?  Who
cares what Microsoft says.  It's your program, make it as easy to use for your
customers as you can.
