Description

This feature request is a follow-up to this post on the discussion forum:

http://www.multicharts.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10115

Currently, MultiCharts displays daily bars based on the "official" daily bar data that it receives from the user's data vendor. This means that the time periods for the daily bars are fixed, and can't be changed to account for custom sessions.

As one example, assume that you have a chart for AAPL with 5-minute bars as data 1, and 1-day bars as data 2, using the default session (09:30-1600). The daily bars should reflect data for the period of the regular trading hours (09:30-16:00).

If you then change the session for both instruments to extended trading hours ("US Stocks (with Pre & Post Market)"), the minute bars will display data for the period of 08:00-20:00. However, the daily bars will still show data for only 09:30-16:00. You can see this in the attached screenshot, with the daily bars showing up as green candlesticks at 16:00, even though the minute bars are for a longer period.

The same problem works in reverse. E.g., the daily bars for the @ES# e-mini reflect data for the extended trading hours of 15:30 yesterday to 15:15 today (at least when based on data from IQFeed). If I display a custom session for just the regular trading hours of 08:30-15:15, the daily bars will still show data for the extended hours.

It would be great it MultiCharts could provide an option to display "unofficial" daily bars based on minute data for custom time sessions. That way, the daily bars would automatically be reformatted to cover the time of whatever session is requested, rather than just showing the default daily bars. It should still show the "official" daily bars by default, but it should allow "unofficial" custom daily bars as an option.

Sorry, there seems to be a bug with the "attach a file" process. I couldn't upload the screenshot. I can email it on request.

That would be possible only by building such custom daily bars out of minute data. It means the quantity of such daily bars would be significantly smaller than the quantity of server-side daily bars. If a date vendor doesn't support minute data, there is no solution in this case. The open questions:
1. Should the custom daily bars be saved to database?
2. Should it be a global setting for all data providers or for specific ones?
