Description

Drawing ojects are easily moved unintentionally (User simply clicking on chart may upset placed drawing tool).  This becomes a bigger issue if the tool has been drawn from points further back than the visible history.  Solution is to provide a "locked" property which protects the tool from being moved.

Steps to reproduce this issue

see image for how it might appear in the background menu.  It would also be appropriate in the format dialog.

+1 to lock drawing objects.
The feature becomes significant when 'Title-Bar' auto-hide is active on chart windows of small size.
I propose the following functionality: When "lock" is active, pressing and holdng a modifier key while selecting the object would allow to move the drawing object easily (without going into menu to unlock it).
The purpose of the modifier key is to avoid forcing user to go through lock / unlock every time.
Basically the idea is to have drawing object always stay 'locked' unless modifier key held down (example 'Shift' key.) The downside:  two hands required to to move the object.

I like geizer's suggestion.
I would add that perhaps the most-recently-placed object should remain movable without extra keys being necessary until the workspace is saved.   The idea is that drawing objects are not always placed exactly correctly on the first try, so getting the object correctly drawn in the first place should not be interruped by extra hoops.
Again, being done with placing an object would be signaled either by placing another object (which now becomes the most-recently-placed ), or by saving the workspace (which should probably put all objects behind the protection of the "lock").
P.S.  It should not be required to close the workspace, merely to save it.

A drawing can be locked in Format Objects window, which is accessed via right click on the chart, select Format Drawings.
