Even though MultiCharts is a stable and reliable piece of software, you may want to backup your custom data and studies to be on the safe side should there be a system crash or hardware failure. It is important to understand that you can back up MultiCharts files to restore them successfully later only if the backup and restore procedures were completed for exactly the same version (the build numbers in brackets that can be found in Help -> About MultiCharts should match) the software.

Since MultiCharts 11 it is possible to do a backup of user data and application settings in a few clicks using Backup Application. See Backup Application for additional information.

Since MultiCharts 11 it is possible to restore MultiCharts settings and user data from a backup file using Restore Application. See Restore Application for additional information.

Saving User Data

There are two ways to backup user data: backup database files or export data from QuoteManager into .QMD files.

Copying database files is faster, but you won’t be able to merge this data with already existing in the database (if required)

Exporting data from QuoteManager into .QMD files will allow you to merge this data with the other data that already exist in the database; however, some data will not be exported (session templates, symbol roots, exchanges) if it is not applied to any symbol in QuoteManager.

To save database files:

  1. Click Windows Start button.
  2. Select Run
  3. For 32 bit MultiCharts on Windows XP, paste the following command: %allusersprofile%\Application Data\TS Support\MultiCharts
For 32 bit MultiCharts on Windows Vista/7/8/10 paste the following command: %allusersprofile%\TS Support\MultiCharts
For 64 bit MultiCharts on Windows Vista/7/8/10 paste the following command: %allusersprofile%\TS Support\MultiCharts64
For 32 bit MultiCharts .NET on Windows Vista/7/8/10 paste the following command: %allusersprofile%\TS Support\MultiCharts .NET
For 64 bit MultiCharts .NET on Windows Vista/7/8/10 paste the following command: %allusersprofile%\TS Support\MultiCharts .NET64
  4. Press Enter.
  5. In the popped up window make a copy of the DataBase folder with all its contents.

To export data:

  1. Open QuoteManager:
In MultiCharts main menu select File, then point to New and click QuoteManager Window
  2. In QuoteManager main menu select File, then point to Export Data and click Export All Instruments… ;or
Click the Export Data   icon on the toolbar.
  3. In the Export window make sure that the Export symbols with settings, no data box is unchecked.
  4. Click Next
  5. Enter the name of the *.qmd file and choose the path where it will be located.
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Finish.
Note:That is not recommended to export all instruments in one go into QMD file if the databases size is more than 4 gb, as there may be not enough RAM for compression. To avoid possible difficulties please export instruments in parts (highlight instruments by holding the CTRL key and clicking on them) or just do a copy of the Databases folder itself as described above
